Alice Burns Obituary

Alice H. Burns June 3, 1914 - January 20, 2008 San Jose resident Alice H. Burns died January 20 at Santa Teresa Kaiser Hospital. She was 93 years old. Mrs. Burns was born in Medley West Virginia and grew up in Maryland. She graduated from Catherman's Business College with the Class of "32". She moved to Washington D.C. to become a Secretary and Administrative Assistant in the Treasury Department and the Land Lease Administration. Later she worked for the State Department and in 1947 she was Executive Secretary for the Trade Agreement Committee in Geneva, Switzerland. Married in Washington D.C. November 13, 1948 she was the beloved wife of Malcolm E. Burns. Together they moved west to San Jose, CA in 1949. She was an active member in the First United Methodist Church of San Jose. A homemaker since 1951 she was preceded in death by her husband in 1991. She is survived by her sons Gaylon Burns of Sonora, and Kevin Burns of Sonora, a daughter-in-law Belinda Barlow of Sonora, a granddaughter Marissa Burns of San Diego and a grandson Dylan Burns of Sonora. Services will be held February 9 in Lincoln Glen Manor Chapel at 2671 Plummer Ave., San Jose, CA. Inurnment will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park. The family prefers donations in Mrs. Burn's memory to be made to the Memorial Fund at the First United Methodist Church of San Jose.
