We just finished reading Eastside Dreams with my students who are in a specific situation in their lives. They really enjoyed the book and had deep discussions about how they see themselves in the book. Thank you for you honesty and insight into the life you led, that gives our youth a glimpse of what could happen, for the good and bad. All of my students said they enjoyed reading your book. They all wanted to say "thank you". I know that is a book, filled with your life lessons, that they will never forget. Thank you Art Rodriguez, Rest in Peace.

I remember Art Rodriguez. He was an amazing person. I was very fortunate to have met him when I was still in highschool. He came to visit my school which was crazy. Everyday there was a gangster fight. But the moment he came and read from his book east side dreams it seemed as though the fights where not important anymore. And life began as though reborn. He was a wonderful person and will be truly missed.

A Gentleman, so sad, I just found out...I met Art around 1981, I was Chris Brady's first drum builder, and Art used my concert kit I had built for myself at the Entertainment centre in Western Australia while he was touring with " Manhattan Transfer " Condolences to the Family and Friends of this very talented & amazing person. Meeting & hanging out with him was one of my most memorable experiences in my life. He made my kit, an 8 inch x 14 snare, toms 6 x 6, 8 x 8, 10 x 10, 12 x 12, 14 x 14 & floor Tom's 16 x 16, 18 x 18 & bass drum 20 x 20 sound epic through the massive sound system at sound check, gave me goose bumps...
Blessings

I am really shocked reading about Art's untimely passing and send my deepest sympathy to his great family. I had the good fortune of playing bass with 3 of the greatest drummers of our time and Art was one of them. Played with him in the late 70's in Reno and a few jobs in LA. He brought my playing up several notches. I always remembered him as a cool, good-hearted, great and fun loving person. Sorry we lost touch. Art is a real loss to our society but also a real gain to his being here. RIP Art.

I was lucky enough to have met you personally when you spoke at a couple of the high schools here in the East Side of San Jose. You have touched and will continue to touch the lives of hundreds of kids and their families and communities through your books and example. Thank you for all you have done. God Bless you and your family.

Art Rodriguez, I am saddened by the fact that I never had the pleasure of meeting you personally, but I rejoice in the truth that is that you have eternal peace. You have done so much for my younger cousin and for many people from all crosses of life. There is no way to repay your generosity, but I am sincerely grateful. The big man in the sky needed you up there and I can clearly see why, you were truly an inspirational and wonderful person. Rest In Paradise.

Art's East Side Dreams is the one book I can put in the hands of my students who feel like no book can ever speak to them. And they are always spellbound by his story of places they know, people they live with, challenges they face. I will always be grateful for his honest, inspiring words.

Uncle Art, I love you, and you and your great big hugs will be missed. I feel very proud, amazed, and thankful about how strong and supportive your family is, and i know this is something you helped teach them. They are strong with the hope you helped show them, loving, like how you were, and support not only each other but the rest of us who are hurting because we miss you, just like you would be doing. Thank you for all your love and wisdom.

You came and spoke for my students at Branham High School several times, and many of my kids said that yours are the only books they have ever truly read. You will be missed.

I"ve know Art my whole life. Me and brothers and sister used to hang out with Artie and Daniel in the big back yard. When the girls came I was so excited I was able to do sleep overs. I remember one night me and Elise colored on the walls. I was scared I thought BIG Art was going to spank me but he didn't.I have nothing but good memories hanging out with Art and his family. I know I will see him in Gods Kingdom. I will keep his family in my prayers. Tracy Orona-Rivera
