Beulah Melvin

Beulah passed away peacefully on her birthday, May 7, 2007 at the age of 96. Survived by daughters Susan Hill (Jack) of Santa Cruz and Lesley Gourvitch of Rio Vista; granddaughter Joanna Jost (Wes) and great granddaughter, Eliza of Sunnyvale; and, brother Dr. Leonard Osias (Irene) of Palm Desert and Walnut Creek. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Jerry, her twin sisters Ruth Moss & Jean Jarrett, and son-in-law, Jay Gourvitch.Jerry and Beulah came to California from New York in 1939. They lived in Sacramento for 42 years. Beulah then lived in Walnut Creek and, most recently, in Sunnyvale. Beulah was very active in both local community and Jewish community activities, giving generously of her time to a wide variety of organizations and community efforts. Beulah was named NCJW's Woman of the Year in 1983 and was also awarded the Hannah G. Solomon award in 1992. She will truly be missed but will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her and through her legacy of volunteerism. In memory of Beulah, donations may be made to the National Council of Jewish Women, 8421 Ascolano Ave., Fair Oaks, CA 95628. Arrangements by Byrgan and Company, Los Gatos.
