Dan Eilers passed away Wednesday after waging a heroic battle with bladder cancer. Dan's enthusiastic positive spirit, keen intelligence, and kind heart will be missed by those people whose lives he touched and especially by those who knew him well.
Dan was born and raised in Portland, OR to Cliff and Lois Eilers. He attended Marshall High School there and continued his higher education at the University of Washington and received his MBA in 1982 at Stanford University.
Before receiving his MBA and working in Silicon Valley Dan had a broadcasting career on the radio in Eugene and Portland, OR and as a TV news anchor in Seattle, WA.
Dan held various executive positions at Apple Computer, Inc. in the 12 years he was there including leading their corporate venture capital efforts and went on to be CEO of their subsidiary, Claris. Dan held other CEO positions in Silicon Valley as well as being the CEO-in-residence at Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers. Dan became a partner in Vanguard Ventures in 2000 and sat on multiple Boards of Directors.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary, daughter, Megan; and also Rosemary's daughters: Stephanie (Joe) Daiek, Danielle Russi, Angelique (Christopher) Vierra and seven grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be announced on Dan's CaringBridge site. Donations in lieu of flowers should be directed in Dan's name to:
Stanford Cancer Center, 875 Blake Wilbur Drive, Stanford, CA 94305. Attn: Sandy Srinivas for research in bladder cancer.

Dan was a grade school buddy of mine. I was looking forward to seeing him at our 50th HS reunion, and am so sad to learn of his passing. We will remember him at the event. I did see him out our 20th, and it was so fun catching up.

I only met you and Dan a few times but I have always sensed that, as individuals and as a couple, your circle of warmth and wit was wide, influential and enduring. I always remembered his big smile while at Apple, and I certainly remember the day you and he came to pick up Chelsea the stray cat you lovingly adopted from me.
