Just found out so sad, great guy, I met gus back in 1996-97, he picked up and delivered the mail to my company. I`m a huge baseball fan and when I found out about his past I asked for an autograph bat and picture, a few days later I got em. Then when pagers were still popular I had cnn sports hooked up to it and a trivia question came up. The question was who was the 1st catcher to catch a no-hitter in the american league and national league, the answer Gus Triandos, I couldn`t believe it so I waited by the front door for him to pick up the mail and when I told him his name was just on cnn for a trivia question he said what was it for the most strike outs!!! You will be missed greatly.

My sympathies on your loss. I met Gus when I was just a youngster back in the mid-sixties at Candlestick when he was there to play the Giants. He heard someone call me by my name "Gus" and said who the heck would name their kid Gus? I turned around and there he was...big smile and a bigger laugh. Always remembered that day. Even shared that story with him years later when I saw him in Mt View where I was working as a Teamster...same great laugh. If you believe in it, he is now playing on the "Field of Dreams". Thanks for sharing him with us here.

Mrs. Triandos & Family,
I would like to pass my sympathy onto
your family on the loss of Gus. I met
Gus when he was Scouting for the Los
Angeles Dodgers and I was Scouting for
the Cincinnati Reds. Love to see him
at the ball park! What a great fun loving guy with a great personality.
I have a picture he signed up in my
office of Gus. I will always treasure
our meetings at the ball park and his
great wit and his friendship.

"May our famous son of Bernal Heights rest in peace. One of the great ball players coming out of the City, Gus was right up there with Joe. I'm sorry I could not make it down to San Jose for the service."

May God Bless

I worked for Gus at the Alec's Department store before it's grand opening in the summer of 1966. I was removing boxes to a trash dumpster .... " He took time to give me a pep talk " and how he appreciated my hard work and effort, I'll never forget it!

We knew Gus from Precita Park. The family lived on the top of Alabama St. All his friends from Precita Park knew he would go far in baseball.

My condolences from Baltimore. As most "boys" around my age, Gus was my first sports hero. I wanted you to know how many calls the sports talk station here in town got last Friday from others just like me who had such wonderful memories of Gus. He was kind enough to sign a ball for me at the 30th Anniversary game in 1984, replacing one I had gotten in 1960 at the school bazaar, but had played with a little too much. Gus meant more to Baltimore than he probably ever knew. May God bless your family.

Mr. Triandos was kind enough to a small boy to sign an autograph after I had fought my way through the crowd that surrounded him, outside the old connie mack stadium. His only request was 'Sure son I will sign your program, if you will get off of my shoe"
He was such a giant and I had pushed through the crowd to get to him not realizing i was standing on his foot.
Bottom line, always a gentleman, a great athlete, and had Patience with a small boy standing on his shoe!
Condolences and prayers to the family. He is not forgotten
