Harold Kerr Obituary
KERR, Harold C.-- Born April 6, 1914 in Canonsburg, PA, the son of Alexander Kerr and Alice Drake. Passed into God's hands on December 24, 2002 in Roseville, CA.
Survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Rose of Roseville, CA and four of his five children, Marlane Pagura of Cupertino, CA, Donald Kerr of Redwood City, CA, Charles Kerr of Orangevale, CA, and Kathleen Chirco of Clayton, CA, Richard Kerr having preceded him in death in 1980.
He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren who loved their ""PapPap' dearly, as well as two brothers, Kenneth Kerr of La Jolla, CA, and James Kerr of Pittsburgh, PA.
Raised in the Pittsburgh area, he attended local public schools and after graduation from High School began his business career as a clerk with Kelly Drug Company. He met his sweetheart and future bride through friends and married Rose Skledar on June 7, 1941.
World War II brought him into serving his country in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Navy 118th Construction Battalion (SeaBee's). After discharge from the service he packed his wife and young daughter, Marlane, off to California for a new start in life.
The family settled in the San Francisco Peninsula area, eventually finding a home in Redwood City, where they continued to build the family and grow roots into the community they resided in until retirement and relocation to Roseville, CA in 1989.
Harold's life was filled with service to God, Family and Community. He was part of the builder generation. He managed and became part owner of West Coast Weatherstrip Company until selling his interest in the business in 1959. He then went through several job transitions until joining the Redwood City Police Department in 1968 as Police Dispatcher. He had been a volunteer Reserve Police Officer with the department for many years and this was a natural fulfillment of his love for community involvement and public safety.
Harold was a Deacon and Founding Elder of the Sequoia Presbyterian Church in Redwood City and served in Chaplin Positions in the service clubs he belonged to. He was active in the Redwood City ""Host' Lions Club and Redwood City and Roseville Elks Lodges, Sirs Branch 86 in Roseville, the American Legion in Redwood City, and V.F.W. in Roseville.
Visitation will be Monday, December 30, 2002 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the WOODSIDE CHAPEL OF CRIPPEN & FLYNN. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, also at the chapel, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Skyline Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Lions Eye Foundation or the Public Safety Support Services, San Mateo Office. Arrangements are in care of Woodside Chapel of Crippen & Flynn.
