Ingrid Smith Obituary

Ingrid Barrett Smith 1956 - 2004 Ingrid Barrett Smith died at her home in Menlo Park on July 7, 2004, 9 months after she was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Ingrid faced her disease with the same grace and determination that she exhibited throughout her life. Ingrid is survived by her loving husband of 17 years, Lyle Smith, their two sons, Colin, 15, and Derek, 12, and her mother Clotilde Barrett and her brother Ken Barrett, both of Utah. Ingrid was born January 9, 1956, the daughter of Clotilde and the late Earl Barrett. She grew up in Illinois and Colorado, receiving a B.S. in Statistics from Colorado State University and an M.S. in Economics from UC Davis. Ingrid was a successful data applications designer for a number of technology companies, most recently Business Objects of San Jose. She loved the outdoors and was an avid runner, hiker, bicyclist and skier. She was also an active community and school volunteer and well loved in her community. She received honorary service awards for her work both at the local and district level. A service in her memory is scheduled for July 29, 2004, 3:00 p.m. at the Stanford Memorial Church with a reception to follow at California Cafe. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to the Menlo Atherton Education Foundation, P.O. Box 584, Menlo Park, CA 94026; or to Stanford University, in care of Cynthia Newalder, Office of Medical Development, 2700 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025, in memory of Ingrid Smith, for gastric cancer research.
