Jessie McNabb Obituary

Jessie McNabb (Taylor + Cathcart + Bearden) Resident of Hillsborough Jessie died March 4, 2010 after a long interesting life. Born on November 28, 1905 in Exeter, Missouri, at age two she moved with her family to the San Joaquin Valley where her father worked in the Sierra Nevada Mountains building and operating a flume which brought lumber to Sanger, CA. She graduated from Sanger High School and attended Fresno State College, earning a Lifetime Teaching Credential. The weekend after graduation she married her first husband, F. Herbert Taylor, in June 1927. They established their first home in Fresno, later moving to San Jose, Bakersfield and Burlingame. After Herb's death in 1952, she met and married Edward E. Cathcart moving to their Hillsborough home where she resided till her death. When Ed died in 1985, she was alone until, at age 85, she married her third husband Prewitt H. Bearden who died eight years later. Jessie always said she was blessed to have shared her Life with "Three Fine Gentlemen". She taught elementary school in Kern county from 1942 till she moved to the Peninsula in 1946 and taught at Green Hills School in Millbrae until her retirement at age 65. She loved 2nd and 4th grades and particularly enjoyed teaching and disciplining mischievous boys. After her retirement she traveled broadly and enjoyed telling stories of her adventures, even writing and publishing (in Sea Magazine) a short article about a memorable small boat trip in Southeast Alaska (circa 1955). She will be remembered for her keen sense of etiquette, her lady like demeanor, her exceptional cooking skills providing many fine meals for family and friends, and her great sense of humor, causing friends to comment, "Jessie is always good for at least one great laugh". She is survived by her sister Dorothy (Murphys), son Phil and wife Beth (San Jose), step-son Donn and wife Pat (Santa Rosa), and grandsons, Bruce and wife Shar, Tom and wife Melissa, Jeff and wife Karin and Chuck, and great-grandchildren, Patrick, Susan, Justin, Trevor and Kimberly. There will be a Graveside Service at Cypress Lawn, Colma, CA at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010 followed by a reception in celebration of a Life lived fully.
