Juan Iglesias Memoriam
Juan Mendiola Iglesias
May 20, 1936 - November 9, 2014
A Father is neither an anchor to hold us back,
nor a sail to take us there, but always a guiding light
whose love shows us the way.
Born on Guam to Jose Q. and Ana M. Iglesias, Juan was the brother of Magdalena, Beck, Beatrice, Maria and Joe. Having survived Japanese occupation of the island, Juan joined the U.S. Navy in 1955. While stationed at Moffett Field Naval Air Station, he met the woman who would become his forever wife, Josephine. They married in 1957 and went on to raise a family.
During his enlistment, Juan served aboard the U.S.S. Independence, U.S.S. Lexington, U.S.S. Constellation and U.S.S. Shangri-La. As an active duty service member, he received numerous commendations and awards, including Good Conduct, Expeditionary, Vietnam Service, National Defense and Meritorious Unit Medal's. While serving with Attack Squadron 12 at NAS Cecil Field in Florida, Juan was honored as a Sailor of the Year in 1971. He retired from active duty as a Petty Officer First Class, Aviation Structural Mechanic, and transitioned to Fleet Reserve status. Juan's military career culminated with 30 years of continuous service to the U.S. Navy.
After retiring to Guam, Juan returned with his family to California in 1976 and went to work as a machinist for Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale, California. He retired from Lockheed in 1998 and went on to care for his wife Josephine, and later his daughter Rosemary.
Juan is survived by his children Ron and wife Joann, Frank, Barbara and Jenney, by his grandchildren Joann, John, Ron Jr., Michael, Sherissa and Jae, and by his great grandchildren Angelica, Serena, Christian, Jazmine, and Adrian. He was predeceased by his parent's Jose and Ana, his wife Josephine, and his children Rocky, John Jr., and Rosemary.
A private family and full military honors service has been held, with internment at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California.
