Melissa Morrissey Eldredge, 55, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at her home in Monte Sereno, California with her family by her side after a courageous 14-year battle with breast cancer.
Melissa was born on November 7, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph O. Morrissey, Jr. and Ann Griesedieck Morrissey. She was raised in St. Louis and attended John Burroughs School. She graduated from Stanford University and earned her MBA from Loyola Marymount University.
Melissa was incredibly loved and had a large number of close friends. Some of the many words her friends use to describe her include strong, courageous, inspirational, generous, kind and beautiful. Melissa was a dedicated mother who put family above all else. She knew that time was precious and lived every moment of her life with purpose. Melissa's determination and strength were apparent to everyone who knew her, and her presence was defined by humility and grace. She set a powerful example and inspired us all to be better people.
Melissa was an accomplished athlete throughout her life. During her youth she was a competitive swimmer and diver. She played field hockey in college and enjoyed tennis, golf and cycling later in life. Tennis was perhaps her greatest passion. She played competitively even while undergoing perpetual rounds of chemotherapy and excelled to the amazement of the many friends she developed at Courtside club.
Melissa is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Charlie, her three sons, Christopher, Jamie and Andrew, her brother John Morrissey, her sister Rebecca Morrissey and a close extended family.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Melissa's life on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Los Gatos. All guests are encouraged to attend the reception following the service at Testarossa Winery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stanford Cancer Institute, specifically directed to the Breast Cancer Research Program of Dr. Melinda Telli. Dr. Telli was one of Melissa's dedicated oncologists and researches treatments for triple-negative breast cancer.
