Peter Campilongo Obituary

Peter Campilongo

Resident of S. San Francisco

Sept. 27, 1918-May 21, 2012

Pete, age 93, passed away peacefully from complications he sustained from a fall in March. Surrounded by family and his wife of 62 years, LaVerne, who was the love of his life. Pete was born in San Francisco, grew up in Bernal Heights and graduated from Balboa High School. Served in the United States Army in WWII, saw action in the Asiatic-Pacific and was awarded the Philippine Liberation medal and Bronze Star.

Peter was an accomplished pianist, enjoyed golf, bowling, and playing cards with his buddies. He loved watching sports on TV and was a loyal 49er fan. He was a gardener for the City of South San Francisco and retired in 1981. Pete was first and foremost a father, completely devoted to his family and friends. He leaves a legacy of kindness and loving compassion for his family and friends.

Survived by daughter Fran Lidwell, loving son-in-law Mark Lidwell, daughter Kathy Campilongo and son Jim Campilongo. Grandchildren, Gelina Aquilina, Andrew Lidwell, Sarah Lidwell and Great Granddaughter Sophia Aquilina, who put a sparkle in his eyes. Loving sisters, Maryanne (Babe) Spargo, Ida (Sis) Spargo and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Helping Hands Fund at Mater Dolorosa Church. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass on May 30, 2012, 11:00 AM at Mater Dolorosa Church, 1040 Miller Ave., So.S.F. Reception immediately following the Mass in the church hall.

My condolences to the Campilongo Family. I remember Pete stopping by to see his lovely wife LaVerne when I worked at SSF BoA on Linden - back in the day. A lovely family, I send my love,

My favorite memories as a kid were the PoGoBo picnics. Peter is the last of that legacy and I'm sure they are all together now playing cards and golfing! My condolences to the family.

Condolences to the Campilongo family. Pete was aways so friendly and hospitable to me. My parents always taught me to be formal and respectful to my elders so I called Pete, "Mr Campilongo" even though he told me to call him "Pete". One day he assertively said, "Kenneth, stop with the Mr Campilongo, I am Pete, ok?" After that I always called him Pete and to my surprise I was comfortable with it. He was a good guy. All the Campilongos have been so good to me. So sorry to lose Pete. Kenneth Harper, Vacaville, Ca.

I will always remember Pete as a gentleman of the old school, a kind and warm host, and a loving family man. They don't make them like him anymore. God speed, Pete, and my love to LaVerne and the family.

To my Auntie LaVerne, Fran, Kathy and Jimmy, Uncle Pete is young again playing cards and golfing again with the rest of the POGOBO guys. But the thing I will remember the most is those words to Dennis " YOU BA BOW"
Love to you all Rich and Winnie
