Resident of San Jose
Phil died peacefully at his home at the age of 86. He was born the only child of Theresa and Matthew DeFranco in Chicago Il, growing up in San Jose. As a young man, he excelled in acrobatics, bodybuilding, & body surfing. He loved to dance, sing and was passionate about his classic car collection. He was a member of MPOTAC (Mid Peninsula Old Time Auto Club)
He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Mary Pat; 5 children, Denise (Richard) Palmer; David DeFranco; Steven DeFranco; Ronald (Vera) DeFranco; Darlene (Mark) Nietsche; 2 stepdaughters, Kim Downey; Laura Hellevig, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 9-12 P.M., Tues. July 1 at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose 95125. Funeral will be at 12 noon in Chapel of the Roses. Burial will follow at 1 P.M. Reception immediately following on Alum Rock Blvd.

MaryPat and Family,
We are very saddened to hear of your loss. Phil and I met at San Jose High School, but later became well acquainted when we worked for the same company. After work we would go to the YMCA for weight lifting and bodybuilding. We are sorry we were unable to attend the final services, as we have been out of the state for over a month.

My heartfelt sympathy to Mary Pat and the entire DEFRANCO Family. May you find comfort in family and friends and in the precious memories you share. Phillip an I were friends at San Jose High School. He was very active in bodybuilding and on occasion would put on demonstrations for us classmates.I always compared Phil to "Charles Atlas". He will be missed by everyone who knew him. May he enjoy walking hand in hand with our lord in heaven.
