Richard David Shilling

Richard David Shilling A loving husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Lord on June 10th after a sudden heart attack. He was born on July 22, 1917 in Salt Lake City, graduated from the University of Utah, followed by a masters degree in civil, mining, and mechanical engineering from Stanford University and was the Assistant Building Official for the City of San Jose, overseeing the development of this city until his retirement in 1976. He continued doing engineering on a consulting basis for a number of years thereafter. Dick was a very faithful, devoted and caring husband to his wife of 58 years, Betty. They cherished their life together, enjoying travel to Europe, Hawaii and the Holy Land, participating in church activities, studying the Bible and growing closer to their Lord together. He loved his family very much; always helping his children and taking pleasure in watching his grandchildren grow. Dick lived a happy and unselfish life, continually aware of the Lord's blessings and living each day to the fullest. He is survived by his wife, Betty; brother Robert and his wife Jane of Silver City, NM; daughter Martha Shilling Bennett, M.D. and her husband Terry of Woodinville, WA; son David Douglas Shilling, M.D. and his wife, Nancy, of Mount Vernon, WA; son John Dean Shilling and his wife, Teresa, of Fremont, CA; and son Kenneth Richard Shilling and his wife, Maureen, of San Jose, CA., 12 grandchildren: Paul, Beth, Diana, Emily, Lars, Pete, Matthew, Adam, Christina, Aaron, Brandon. Stephen, and 2 grandchildren-in-law: Sarah & Pete. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:21. Friends are invited to a funeral mass to be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 219 Bean Ave., Los Gatos, at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16th. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Community Pregnancy Center, 1150 Hillsdale Ave. #104, San Jose, California 95118.
