To the Moncrief Family,

I am deeply saddened by the news of Rick's passing. Rick was one of the nicest guys I have been lucky enough to have known. We had some great times at Pioneer and the years after. Like others I have not been in contact with Rick in awhile, but the good times we had were many and the memories of those will last a lifetime. My prayers go out to the family. Rick my friend may god be with you, RIP....

To The Moncrief Family,
I was shocked to hear of Rick's passing. Although we hadn't spoken in many years, the news sent me back to memories of John Muir and Pioneer and my time spent with Rick. Like Rick and David teaching me to fly fish at Yellowstone, causing trouble on our paper routes, or the time we rafted an overflowing Ross Creek during a huge 82' winter storm. It seems we were always "UP" to something. During those years we were like brothers and your family welcomed me when I felt lost. Rick lived his life to the fullist and he leaves behind many friends and memories. May He Rest In Peace.

To The Moncrief Family,

I am so saddened to hear the news. Although I too haven't seen Rick in years, I cannot forget his infectious smile, his happy-go-lucky way. He always made you feel welcome in the crowd, always that "good guy." You are loved by many. RIP, Baby.......

To the Moncrief family -- I am truly saddened to hear about Rick's passing. I am also part of the St. Martin's "brotherhood". I remember that Rick always had a smile on his face and was quick with a joke. There is another special bond I have with Rick. I believe my father was Rick's mom's obstetrician, so he was there to welcome Rick into this world. As my father passed away last summer, I'm sure he was there to welcome Rick into Heaven. May God bless your entire family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Suzie and Bobby,

I was so sad to hear about Rick. Although I had not seen him in many years, through Tracy's updates, I had followed your family's growth. She talked about how much both you and Rick adorded little Bobby and were making a really nice life in Chico. The memories you made as a couple and as a family are treasures you will carry with you always. You are in our thoughts, in our hearts and in our prayers.

Shocked and saddened is the way I feel today. I also went to grammar school with Rick. When I opened the paper and saw Rick’s picture and name I felt numb. Although I have not spoken to Rick in many years, our Saint Martin Bangles bond was a brotherly bond. I was very happy to see that he found love and had a baby. Suzanne, you and Mary Lou will be in my thoughts. Rick was a gentle soul growing up and never had a bad word to say about anyone. I was very privileged to have known him. Stay Strong……

My Dear Sister Suzie, Bobby and the Moncrief Family,

Our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. We are so truly sorry for your loss. Rick was a wonderful person and will be missed greatly. He will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Rick was more than a brother-in-law, but a friend who cared about what you had to say and what you were doing in your life. One of the best memories that we will forever hold dear is the weekend we stayed with you guys and drifted down the Sac river on inner tubes – laughing all the way down, having lunch at Scotty’s and going to the Chico baseball game – it was a blast! Every time we saw Rick, he greeted us with a big hug and a smile. You always knew he was happy to see you and spend time together. Rick loved Suzie, Bobby and his family dearly and will continue to and to watch over you. Although it is difficult to comprehend now, believe the words of Bobby, “Daddy is in a better place.” God bless all of you.

We love you.

I can still remember the fishing and camping trips that we took, your dad, your mom, you, Tracy (N.G.) and me, and sometimes Pat. We had a lot of fun together. I wish we could have had one more hunting trip. Suzie and Bobby will always be our family. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, 4: "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven, a time to be born and a time to die...a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance." I'll miss you my friend, miss you a lot. Uncle Bill, Sir.

Rick was my friend and the best boss I've ever had. He always asked his employees to work hard, but would never forget to say thank you or good job. He taught myself and many other "fishheads" everything we know about fisheries and working on the river. No matter where I go in my fisheries career it will always lead back to Rick. I will remember my friend Rick for the rest of my life.

My heart goes out to Suzanne, Bobby and all the Moncrief family. Rick was one of the greatest guys i have ever met, and i am proud to say i worked for him. Rick tought me everything i know about working on fisheries projects and the Sac river. Rick was the kind of guy that would bend over backwards to help just about anyone. The impact he has had on the environment and fisheries community will be remembered by all he knew.

I was a classmate of Rick's in grammar school and a friend since then. Although we did not see eachother on a regular basis, it was always great to get togehter at different stages in life. Rick was a very kind and gentle man. He was always very caring and easy to talk with. I don't think I ever saw him get mad at anyone as long as I knew him. I always respected who he was and the his kindness in this world. He was a great example to us all. It was a pleasure and an honor to know him and call him friend. I will miss him!

Suzanne and the entire Moncrief family,
My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. Rick was one of our St.Martins brothers. We were friends at St. Martins, but became especially close over the past couple of years. He truly was a good friend, with a big heart, and as described, was easy to get close to, loved to laugh but easy to share a cry with as well. Our conversations always started and ended with him talking so proudly of Suzanne and Bobby. I loved him very much and will miss him dearly.

Sincerely,
Eric Skavdahl
