Stephen Cougill Obituary
Rode his last wave at Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz on October 1st. Born in San Jose, he will be deeply missed by his wife Jan and his loving daughter Katie. He is the beloved son of Bill Cougill, and dear brother of Kathy Betts (Stephen), Pat (Lori), Tim and Mike. He is survived by his 95 year-old grandmother, Jewell Cougill and is predeceased by his mother Anita Bocca Cougill and his brother Kevin.
His tall tales will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Alison, Andrew, Jarret, Ryan, Lindsay and Sean. His in-laws, Tom and Helen Masuda, Julie Katai (Mike), Robin and Tricia will best remember his outgoing and vibrant personality.
Steve's 'larger-than-life' presence has touched the lives of his aunts, Marie Lipari and Jean French, numerous cousins and many friends.
A practicing San Jose attorney, Steve was an avid surfer, golfer, skier, hunter and fly fisherman. He led a rich life filled with family, friends, travel and music. He will not be forgotten because 'the sun never sets on the cool.'
Steve's life will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 12th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Clare Church, 941 Lexington, Santa Clara.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I will always remember Christmas' at Aunt Nita's and how much fun they were. Sorry to here of the loss of your husband and dad, Steven was my 2nd cousin, my mother is Cindy, AKA Syd. My mom used to take me to Aunt Nita's house for Christmas Eve and steve was always telling stories and I remember takeing care of your house with my mom why you guys went to Hawaii. I am very sad to hear about Steve's passing. He and I go way back a long way... to our grammer school days at St. Mary's. We shared alot of good memories as well as almost the same birthday, being born only a day apart. I will miss his enthusiasm for life, his stories and his laughter. I have been in absolute shock since hearing of the news of Steve's passing. My heart is emptied by the thought of knowing I will be missing my dear friend. It is filled, however, with many, many memories of your father, husband, son, brother, uncle, and so on.
Mine are most certainly fond and rich memories of fun, laughter, stories, experiences, brotherly love, San Jose State, Law School at Santa Clara U, of the practice of law, of his love for his wife, daughter, family.... and the list just goes on and on and on.
Regretably, I will miss Steven's final farewell. But I shall never say farewell to my wonderful memories of him. I am contented with the fact that this world of ours was blessed by God Himself when he created Steve and placed him here; too bad it was for such a short while.
Stephen, I love you brother! I am going to miss you.
