Suzanne DeLone Lussier
Oct 5, 1940 - Feb 17, 2018
Atherton, CA
Suzanne DeLone Lussier of Atherton, CA passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Dick Lussier; sons Mark and Kyle and their spouses Angela and Monika; five grandchildren Max, Taylor, Kieran, Reagan and Arden; three sisters Betsy Balas, Helen DeLone and Donna DeLone and brother Dalip Khalsa.
Suzanne was born in Bryn Mawr, PA on October 5, 1940, the second of six children, and grew up in Pinehurst, NC, Jackson Hole, WY, and Wellesley, MA. She attended the Academy of the Assumption in Wellesley and graduated from LaSalle Junior College in Newton, MA. After graduating, she worked in retail as a manager for John Douglas Inc.; as a buyer/manager for Glad Rags, a women's clothing shop which she co-created and managed in Wellesley; as a Director of Advertising with Wright & Company Realtors in Menlo Park, CA; and later started Impressions, a consulting and staging business for residential properties.
Suzanne and Dick Lussier married on April 27, 1963. With Dick, she traveled extensively in the 1970s – to Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, Europe and Latin America. She was a caring mother and was quite involved in the boys' school and sports activities. She enjoyed family vacations to Hawaii and New England. Her biggest passion was her grandchildren. She traveled the world to spend time with her son Kyle and his family – to Madagascar, Mauritius, South Africa, Haiti, Zambia and England. She got so much joy from spoiling her grandchildren.
Suzanne was known for her big heart and giving nature. She was involved in numerous community service projects, which included establishing a satellite link with Russian citizens as part of Beyond War in the 1970s; serving on the Mid-Peninsula Hospice Foundation Advisory Council (which later became Pathways Home Health and Hospice) and the Menlo Benefit Committee from 1985-1991; helping with the Junior League of Palo Alto; and most recently supporting children at Saint Peter's Catholic School in San Francisco.
Suzanne enjoyed organizing and participating in social and sporting events. She was an avid golfer and member of the Women's Annex at San Francisco Golf Club as well as a member of Cypress Point Club. Among her favorite activities were skiing, tennis and weekend trips to Lake Tahoe with family and friends. She also enjoyed flower arranging, interior design, landscape design and painting.
She is known among her family and friends as a generous, caring, fun-loving and thoughtful soul. If there was ever a need, she was ready to fill it; there was no one kinder or more willing to help. She made an impact on, and was loved by, all those who knew her. She was someone who brought people together. She was so invested in bringing joy to people that she had her own helium tank and brought balloons to any occasion.
Suzanne passed away peacefully in her home after fighting a three-and-a-half-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was brave during her battle with cancer and never lost her wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 10th at 1:00pm at the Church of the Nativity, located at 210 Oak Grove Ave in Menlo Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Suzanne's name to Pathways Home Health & Hospice or Catholic Relief Services.
