Tatsuhiko Tsunekawa Obituary

Tatsuhiko "Tats" Tsunekawa
May 21, 1928 - August 25, 2021
Resident of Mountain View, CA
Tatsuhiko "Tats" Tsunekawa died peacefully at home in Mountain View, CA of natural causes on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, aged 93. He was born in Nagoya, Japan on May 21, 1928 to Teruhiko and Fumi Tsunekawa. After surviving World War II, he met his American-born wife, Rose when they were both attending university and working as overseas telephone operators for the US Air Force in Nagoya, Japan. They eventually made their way to the US and settled in Cupertino, CA where they raised their family. Tats enjoyed working as a mechanical engineer for Ampex Corp. in Redwood City for over 30 years.
He was a wonderful husband and father - he liked to help around the house and always had time to play with his kids and help with homework. He loved taking his family on road trips to places like the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Disneyland. With a creative mind and artistic sense, Tats also enjoyed drawing, painting, and listening to classical music. He also loved tinkering around the house and could fix just about anything. Although a man of few words, he exuded a quiet, reserved strength. He survived immense hardship in Japan and was able to live a comfortable, idyllic life here with his family. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Rose. Also surviving are his daughter Jennie (John) Shikashio and grandchildren Kyle, Shelby, and Ty of Campbell, CA; his son Glenn (Yurina) Tsunekawa, and granddaughter Elena Grace of Tokyo, Japan; niece Sheelah (Greg) Gott McGlaughlin & family of Mountain View, CA ; brother-in-law Roy Ito of Mountain View, CA. He is also survived by his sister Saeko Yamamoto and several nieces and nephews in Japan. He is predeceased by his parents, and sisters Hisako and Ginko.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no service and a private interment. It was also his ardent wish that any expression of sympathy be in the form of a donation to Yu-Ai Kai Japanese American Senior Service, located at 588 N 4th St, San Jose, CA 95112. The family respectfully requests that no koden or flowers be sent.
