Wayne E. Thune
Wayne E. Thune, 67, lifelong resident of Hibbing, died Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minn.
He was born August 20, 1957, to Palmer and Shirley Ann (Moen) Thune in Chisholm, Minn. Wayne graduated from Hibbing High School class of 1976. He married Julie Mathews on May 8, 1976, in Hibbing. Wayne was sales manager and co-owner of Fraboni's Wholesale Distributor along with his brother Mark in Hibbing. He was a member of Kiwanis Club, the Algonquin Club in Hibbing, and the Mesaba Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, playing pull tabs, and making the rounds with his coffee clubs. On the weekend coffee route, he would frequent Hardees, Palmers, and Kathy and Kenny's, and during the week you would find Wayne at the Lucky 7.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Thune, Hibbing, Minn.; three sons, Jim (Melissa) Thune, Side Lake, Mike (Sonia) Thune, Oldsmar, Fla., and Chris Thune, Duluth, Minn.; his siblings, Paulette (Ed) Demontigny, Barnum, Minn., Mark (Janet) Thune, Hibbing, Kathy (Kenny) Snider, Hibbing, and Kim (Mike) Bennett, Eden Prairie, Minn.; three beloved grandchildren, Nick Thune, Kaitlinn (Ryan) Riihinen, and Bella Thune, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Shirley; and two brothers, Joe and John Thune.
Funeral services for Wayne will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Kevin Olson will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service at the church on Saturday. A private interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.
