Joseph Lee Thompson, 49, passed away on March 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with ongoing medical conditions. He entered eternal rest surrounded by the love of those who knew him.

Joe was born on May 22, 1976, in Virginia, Minnesota to Roger Thompson and Debra (Randall) Tersteeg, both of whom preceded him in death.

In his younger years, Joe enjoyed watching WWE and working on installing car radios. As he grew older, his interests expanded to include hunting, camping, and fishing—activities that brought him great joy. He was also a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan, a passion second only to the love he had for his beloved wife, Amy. In his later years, Joe found the greatest happiness in the simple moments spent at home with Amy and their cherished canine kids, Koko, Theodore (“Teddy”), and Rockie (“Rockstar”) Thompson.

During his time with Amy, Joe was employed at Sunrise Deli, Champion Charter, and Electric Power Door, all in Hibbing, Minnesota, until his health no longer allowed him to continue working.

Joe is survived by his loving wife and best friend of eight years, Amy (Samuelson) Thompson; his grandmother, Lena Bernard of Nisswa, Minnesota; his children, Taylor, Kyla, and Evan; and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Laura, Nicole, and Jessica (James) of Hutchinson, Minnesota; Robert and Holly (Adam) of Hoyt Lakes; and Kimberly of Eveleth.

He is further survived by his aunts: Sharlene of Babbitt; Linda (Bryan) of Toivola; Karen (Mike) of Pequot Lakes; Kay of Moorhead; Dixie of Brainerd; Linda (Lee) of Wadena, all in Minnesota; Kathy (Cedric) of Green Bay, Wisconsin; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth (“Beth”) Berghuis; sister Kari Randall; brother Raymond Peter Tersteeg III; his grandparents, Robert Thompson, and Burnell and Helen Randall; his aunt, Patricia Weaver; his uncles, Louis Randall, Ray Randall, Robert Randall, and Harvey Thompson; and his mother-in-law, Kelli Samuelson.

Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
