Frances Granger Obituary

Emmett - Frances was born March 14, 1930 on a farm in St. Francis, Arkansas. The family moved to Piggott, Arkansas when she was five and enrolled her in the first grade. Two years later her father moved the family to California to find work. Frances was enrolled in school in the third grade in Southgate, California and graduated from Excelcior Union High School in 1947.

Frances accepted Christ and was baptized in the Brethren Church in Los Angeles at about age eleven. Due to the influence of her church and pastor she enrolled in the Bible Institute of Los Angeles there she met the love of her life, Harry, who was in his final year BIOLA. She finished her year at BIOLA as Harry graduated and they were married July 25, 1948 in Bellflower, California. They made their home in Caldwell, Idaho where they built their first home on a piece of land given to them by Harry's parents as a wedding present. The couple's two sons were born while they lived in Caldwell.

In 1953 the family moved to Bend, Oregon where Harry was in management training for the JC Penney company. On Memorial Day of 1954 they were in a terrible car accident that put them both in the Hospital for six weeks. Harry could not go back to work so they decided to go back to California so he could go to college. They lived in California for the next four years and Frances supported the family. Harry finished school and was ordained as an American Baptist minister.

Their next move was to Norland, Idaho for 3 years and then to Emmett, Idaho

when Harry accepted a call to be the pastor of the First Baptist Church there.

Frances began teaching Sunday school when she was a Junior in High school and continued teaching at the churches in Norland and Emmett. She sang in the church choir, she worked in the Women's ministry in her church and at the state level. She counseled in youth camps at Cathedral Pines American Baptist camp for many years. She worked in the Idaho Baptist Women's ministries serving in a number of state offices. She held the Idaho Baptist Women's treasurer's job for 15 years. She, with her husband, planned and directed the program for one of the American Baptist Region Conventions. She felt her calling in life was to make a home for the family and support for her husband in his role as Pastor.

Harry and Frances enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. They toured all the states in a motor home or travel trailer. Overseas travels included 43 foreign countries. They took several major mission trips during which they helped build a house for a church in Haiti, and put a roof on a church in Nicaragua. They visited American Baptist Mission work in Japan, Thailand, India, Hong Kong and China.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Harry L. Granger and her older brother and sister. She is survived by her younger sister, Joyce Gengler; her two sons, Harry of Emmett and David (Jeanie) of Kuna; 5 grandchildren and their spouses and 14 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
