Jim Garner Obituary

Emmett - On June 20, 2023, Jim W. Garner passed peacefully, but far too soon - as he always said, "It's better to wear out, than to rust out" ... and so he did. In addition to being "The Best Grandpa in the World", Jim was also an adoring husband, a devoted father, everyone's' favorite Uncle and objectively the most talented horseman in these here parts.

Ontario, Oregon's New Year's Baby of 1948, Jim lived 75 years surrounded by love and laugher with his high-school-sweetheart-turned-wife (of 52 years!), a family he adored and a large circle of friends.

Jim bravely served his country in Vietnam and returned home to marry the love of his life, Sue Garner with whom he had three children and later a fourth "honorary" son they claimed as their own just "out of love". Jim will be deeply missed by his seven grandchildren - who were the very light of his soul.

Returning to Emmett after his service, he became the "Car Wash King" owning and operating several car washes throughout the area. He was well-known for his strong work ethic, generosity and famous folksy humor. You could always count on Jim for a chuckle and warm words even on the coldest of days. Jim's kindness and compassion touched the lives of so many, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him and a large void in all who loved him.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Sue; his children: Brian (Jessica), Brandon (Cynthia), Jamie and Sammy, as well as seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Ira Garner; mom, Lorraine Vickery; and dad, Melvin Vickery.

A viewing will be held on Friday, June 23 at 6:00 PM at Potter Funeral Chapel, located at 228 East Main Street, Emmett, Idaho, 83617. Graveside services will take place on Saturday, June 24 at 11:00 AM at Emmett Cemetery, located at 1205 North Washington Avenue, Emmett, Idaho, 83617.

We encourage you to leave your fondest memories and upload photos to the memorial page, celebrating the life of a man who will be deeply missed and touched the lives of so many.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to any charity honoring and supporting the service of our Vets.

May your memories give you peace and comfort of your loved one. Words fall short of expressing my sorrow for the loss of your loved one. May GOD be with you all during this difficult time. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus.

I was so sorry to see of Jim's passing. I have such fawn memories of the friendship he showed to our Mother (Omeleta) that lived across the alley from your family. He was so kind to her and helped her whenever she needed help.
