Valdora Pitman Obituary

VALDORA JEAN PITMAN
DECEMBER 14, 1930 - FEBRUARY 15, 2015
Valdora Jean Pitman, 84, passed away of natural causes in her home on February 15, 2015 with her beloved family members nearby.  She will be greatly missed by all who know her.
Valdora was the third of 11 children born to Harry and Esta Vaughn in Sweet, Idaho.  She met Alvy Pitman, the love of her life, on a blind date and they were married on Nov. 4, 1947. They resided many years in Emmett and then in Boise, Idaho.  They welcomed six children over the course of two decades.  Val and Alvy were married for 61 years at the time of his death in 2008.
Motherhood was Valdora's career of choice. As an exceptional cook and baker, the family and even the neighbors especially enjoyed the desserts she created for every meal. Val loved to spend time with the family in activities, which created memories, and hilarious stories that only become more precious each time they are told. Camping and fishing were favorite family vacations, although we never knew for sure whether she really liked it. Val often sacrificed to provide for the needs and wants of others. She occasionally worked odd jobs to provide extra financial support especially for her sons as they served missions.
The family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1954. Her unselfish nature, devotion and love for the Lord and others allowed her to provide meaningful service in various leadership and teaching capacities within the church and returned to her much peace and joy. Valdora and Alvy also served eleven years in the Boise LDS Temple.  These opportunities stretched her beyond comfort, however she always rose to the opportunity.
In addition to church service, Valdora and Alvy created loving friendships with many neighbors over the years and were quick to help when they saw a need. Valdora had a caring heart, even in her youth, and remained very close to her extended family, friends, and family throughout her life.  Val's positive influence and sense of humor will continue to bless all those fortunate enough to know her and be blessed by her service and love.
Valdora is survived by her six children: Bob (Venessa) of Middleton ID, Gary (Rhea) of Vancouver WA, Karen Grigg (Karl) of Kuna ID, Janice Edwards (Allan) of Meridian ID, Doug of Nampa ID, and James (Flavia) of Miami FL as well as 27 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

So sorry for your loss.

Aunt Val has always been one of the most loving, kind, concerned and positive people I've known. She never complained, and was always concerned for others. Aunt Val was also very social and fun-loving. She and Alvy have set a high bar on marriage and relationships for all of us to strive toward. I am glad they will finally be together again but we will all miss them both sorely. All my love to their children and grandchildren, as well as Val's sisters and friends.

I was so sorry to hear that Aunt Val had passed away. When I was a child my family would travel to Idaho in the summer. We always went to see Aunt Val and Uncle Alvy. I tasted red velvet cake for the first time when Aunt Val made it for us. Her home was full of love and fun. I have wonderful memories of time spent with her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Love, Annette Francis
