Forte Galanis Obituary

Forte Galanis, 98, of Southborough, formerly of Marlborough, died Monday (March 12, 2012) at Marlborough Hills Health Care Center after an illness. He was the husband of the late Nellie (Mocerino) Galanis who died in 1988. He leaves several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Costa Galanis and Amelia Cuniff. He was born in Marlborough son of the late George and Efihalio (Papacosta) Galanis and has lived in Southborough for most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 159th Infantry and seeing combat in Central Europe, Naples-Foggia, Tunisia, Southern France, Rome-Arno and the Rhineland. For many years he worked for the former M.D.C.-Wayland Division as a laborer and a truck driver. He was a member of Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church in Marlborough. He was a long time member of the Worcester Homing Pigeon Club and for many years raised and raced his pigeons throughout the local area. He loved the outdoors and exercised daily. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday (March 19,2012) in the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough, with the Rev. Gregory Christakos officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Marlborough. Calling hour will be held prior to services from 10 to 11 A.M. Those who wish may make memorial donations in his memory to Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 381, Marlborough, MA 01752.

My deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Forte Galanis.. It was a pleasure and an honor to see him .speak with him and his wonderful smile...The stories of his pigeons I will remember forever...God Bless all of you and I am sure he is resting in peace........warm regards...

So sorry that Forte is gone now. He was one of a kind. He boarded his pigeons with us at Marlboro equestrian center for 12 years. He loved attending to his garden while there. He was so proud to serve and defend our country. He was an icon and he will be missed. Pat and Bob Lupo
