Gary Isaacson Obituary

HOLLYWOOD, FL Gary S. Isaacson, 63, of Hollywood, FL, passed away on Oct. 17, from esophageal cancer at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. Born in Worcester, MA, he grew up in Framingham. He received a BS in Business Administration from Babson College, and with skill and uncanny instinct was successful in both business and investments. He joined his family business and helped it grow into the Fabric Place chain of stores. Married to Laurie Schecter since 1974, he was a devoted husband, dedicated to making their lives meaningful and active by supporting vital causes, traveling, and caring for people. They moved to Hollywood, FL in 1999, where they bought the now eco-friendly Desoto Oceanview Inn. An environmentalist, he helped save historic dune shacks in Provincetown, MA and built a rustic camp on Lake Michigamme, MI. Universally loved and admired for his warm kindness, he leaves his wife Laurie Schecter, mother Annie and his brother Ronald and a far reaching family of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A memorial gathering was held in his memory in Hollywood, FL. The family suggests that contributions in his memory be made to the Friends of the Framingham Heart Study, attn. E. Shindler,73 Mt. Wayte Ave., Framingham, MA. 01702: the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Cancer Research: or to CommonSource/Tides Center, PO Box 29907, San Francisco, CA. 94129.

Dear Laurie,
Dave and I were sad to learn of Gary's passing. We truly learned so much from our time at Fabric Place and our time in Sudbury. Dan O and I were reminiscing last night about the times we all shared when in Sudbury.

Lorrain also enjoyed all your visits in Michigan.

Please know that our thoughts continue to be with you.

Dear Laurie. just wanted you to know that I have been thinking about you a great dea of late. Gary was such a kind, sensitive, giving guy, and I really admire how he handled himself during the shack raising and, later, in confronting adversity. My regret is that I didn't get more time with him and you these past few years on the dunes and in Florida.

My first job when I was in high school was working for the Isaacson's at The Sportswear Store. I worked with my friend Bernie Lynch for Ron in the drapery department, and if I remember correctly, Gary worked primarily in the clothing area, but he was all around. I remember him and Ron as 'good cop, bad cop', with Gary the good cop, always smiling, telling funny stories.

I'm not in the Framingham area any more, but I keep tabs online, and it was sad to see the Fabric Place close down.

My heartfelt condolences to all the Isaacsons.

My deepest sympathy and sadness goes out to the Isaacson & Weitzler famly.
To think of Gary with his quiet way and warm smile, Sportswear, Annie and Betty. The Framily all working together and then on to bigger venue's to the Fabric Place.
Yes, this family is a true back bone of Framingham.

Dear Laurie,

I knew Gary for 40 years and you with Gary for 35 and remember thinking that I finally understood the definition of soul mates when I saw the two of you together. For those who have been blessed to have had the privilege of calling Gary their friend, there is no need to try to describe all the special qualities that so endeared him to all that knew him. Others may not realize they have been touched indirectly by his gifts. Certain people touch a life in a way that change you for the better and you then pass that on to others. Gary was one of those.

We know your pain and grief are overwhelming and we pray that the love and support that envelops you will help you get through the hardest times.

We love you,
Donna, Jerry, Adam, Samantha, and Julia.

Laurie, My sincerest condolences to you and your family.
Although I did not keep in contact as much as I should have I always thought about the two of you and how you always treated me as a special guest at your home in Sudbury.
I will remember him as a sweet and loving man.
