James B. Derby

MAYNARD James B. Derby, 52, of Hudson, formerly of Maynard, died Tuesday, June 18, 2008, at Marlborough Hospital in Marlborough. He was the beloved husband of Christine (Maue) Derby. Born in Concord in October 1955, he was the son of the late Richard and Flavia (DeMars) Derby. He attended Maynard public schools and Maynard High School. He worked for Atlantic Pre-Hung Door Company in Concord. In 1976, he began working for Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard as a stock clerk and later worked in the internal courier service as a courier driver. He took specialized training in defensive and evasive driving and was the first executive auto service chauffeur at Digital. During his 32-year career, he had the honor of driving dignitaries and executives from around the world and also drove sensitive documents and computer chips to various locations. Digital later became Compaq Computer Corporation and most recently Hewlett Packard Corporation where he was presently employed. He was a member of the Maynard Rod and Gun Club, enjoyed fishing and boating on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire and was an avid Harley Davidson motorcyclist. He was especially proud of his children and his greatest joy was coaching youth ice hockey for the Minuteman Flames in Concord. A proud fan, he enjoyed watching his son, Jeff, play hockey and his daughter, Erin, perform jazz and tap dance. In addition to his wife, Christine, he is survived by one daughter, Erin Derby, and one son, Jeffrey Derby, both of Hudson; one stepson, John Lindfors and his wife, Wendy, of Winchendon; his parents-in-law, Ward and Elizabeth Maue of Hudson; four sisters, Linda Dalton and her husband, Peter, of Jacksonville, Fla., Roberta Franklin of Lowell, N.C., Loretta Laskey and her husband, Mark, of Marietta, Ga., and Anita Sedillo and her husband, Patrick, of Chester, Va.; three brothers, Richard Derby and his wife, Karen, of Maynard, Phillip Derby and his wife, Lisa, of Chester, Va., and Brian Derby and his wife, Nancy, of Pepperell; three Godchildren, Casey Dodrill of Newport News, Va., Matthew Lindfors of Winchendon and Amanda Bingle of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., Concord Center. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 25, at 9 a.m., at St. Bridget's Church, 1 Percival St., Maynard.
