John Slamin Obituary

John T. Slamin of Natick passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Metrowest Medical Center of Natick. He was seventy years of age, a devoted husband of Katherine T. (Fahey) Slamin for forty-nine years and a thirty-seven year employee of the town of Natick. A lifelong resident of Natick, he was the son of the late Gerald J. and Mary Rachel (McGrath) Slamin. He graduated from Natick High School, class of 1962 and entered the United States Air Force. He served our country proudly for four years and held the rank of Airman 1st Class. John and Katherine, whom he had met in high school, were married in 1965 while he was home on leave. After his military service he started working in a machine shop and served as a Reserve Police Officer in Natick. Shortly thereafter he joined the Natick DPW, working with the Water Department and upon completion of the Natick Water Treatment Plant, he served as the night foreman until his retirement in 2009. A member of the Natick Safety Committee since 1992, John had also served as the areas NOAH Weather Advisor for the past twenty-five years. Until his illness became too great, he would be up at all hours measuring rain and snowfall amounts, barometric pressures and other related weather data. Any Natick data seen on weather maps came through his dedicated efforts. Katherine; their son James J. Slamin of Natick, a daughter Holly S. Slamin of Natick and son Peter M. Slamin, also of Natick; a grandson, Kodie S. Slamin of Natick and a sister, Patricia DiMaggio and her husband Frank of Natick and several nieces and nephews survive him. All services will be private at the request of the family and donations may be made in Johns memory to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements by the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common. To send Johns family a condolence, please visit www. everettfuneral.com.
