Thomas Morss Obituary

Thomas Wentworth Morss, 59, of Wayland died in a traffic accident in Boston early Wednesday morning, July 11, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Shelby Calvert Morss; three daughters: Peyton (25), Phoebe (22), and Paige (19) all of Wayland; his mother, Mary Morss of Wayland; his father, Everett Morss and his wife Pamela Morss of Magnolia; brothers, Everett Morss of Geneseo, NY, Andrew R. Morss of Denver, CO and William Mann and his wife Lisa Mann of Hamilton; sisters, Esther Morss of Dearborn, MI and Heather Outlaw of Austin, TX; his mother-in-law Judy Calvert of The Villages, FL; his brothers-in-law Stanley Calvert and his partner Dana Kelly of Washington D.C., and Mark Calvert and his wife Sharon Calvert of St. Petersburg, FL, as well as 15 nieces and nephews. Tom graduated from Deerfield Academy, where he was Head Boy and the recipient of the Deerfield Cup, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a Morehead Scholar. He rece- ived his MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration where he met the love of his life and wife of 30 years. Toms career in commercial banking spanned many roles and several continents including assignments in Mexico and Latin America, where he was able to utilize his Spanish and Portuguese, as well as London and Singa- pore. He was a 30 year veteran of Bank of America in Boston. Tom was a beloved hus- band, father, son, brother and friend who will be remembered for his wit, intelligence, authenticity, anachronistic use of hats and duct tape, and the boundless love for his family. Tom was an avid golfer, skier, snowboarder, hockey player and Boston sports fan who watched all close games standing directly in front of the television. He was a proud member and founder, while living in Hampstead, England, of the Sunday Night Game Films Society and was the Poet of Record of the HBS 87 Section C International Golf Team of Rivals. An enthusiastic raconteur, Tom was famous for ribald poetry and a ready repertoire of jokes. Tom had a close family and treasured his daughters, family dinners and celebrations of all sorts. He will be missed beyond words. Please help celebrate Tom and his generous spirit on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11:00 oclock at the First Parish in Wayland, 50 Cochituate Road, Wayland Center. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Save the Children, 501 Kings Hwy E, Suite 400, Fairfield, CT 06825 or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Boston, 75 Federal St., 8th Fl., Boston, MA 02110. I will really miss Tom and remain stunned by the tragic loss. Such an accomplished guy with a down to earth and easy going personality. We were colleagues at BKB and have daughters around the same age. It was always great to see him - we had lunch just a few months ago. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure of playing hockey with Tom for several years in Watertown. He was a fantastic guy and a true gentleman. My heart goes out to his family and those who knew him well. Saturday AM hockey will never be the same without him. May he rest in peace and may his family find comfort in knowing how deeply he will be missed by those lucky enough to have known him.

Two things I will especially miss about Tom: his inimitable smirk and the way he greeted you when he called (pre caller ID) with simply "Morss." My heart goes out to Shelby, Peyton, Phoebe and Paige. Tom will be so incredibly missed by so many. He brought joy and laughter to many.

I was stunned reading about his passing because a few days prior to that I had told myself to call him for a long-overdue reunion tennis match. We often played together and teases each other when we were working at BKB. When we were at the LODP class of 87, he tutored me on corporate finance and I'm forever grateful.

RIP, my friend. We all miss you. My deepest condolences to Shelby and your family.

Tom was a true larger than life character. We mostly knew him from his softball days as "captain" of the Rangers way back when, but had just seen him again recently and he hadn't changed a bit. He was always so funny, smart, engaging, energetic, thoughtful and someone who clearly loved Shelby and his daughters deeply. He will be sadly missed but may his "memorable memories" live on with his spirit and provide comfort to all in his family.

Sadly,

Dear Shelby and daughters, I returned back to the office from vacation and was told about the passing of your Thomas. I am very sad to hear this and truly hope you can find some comfort in your memories of him, of which I would bet there are so many wonderful ones to recall, as he sounds like a wonderful husband and father. Sincerely, Patrice Bottari

I have worked with many people in my 47yeara but without out a doubt Tom was very special. We would talk and laugh about many things. I always looked forward seeing him and in particular how he would share loving stories about his family his girls and especially his wife and how much he liked admired and obviously loved her his forever love. He would say how lucky he was to have her in his life.

I know how sad and difficult It is for all of you. Please know my sincere thoughts and prayers are and will always be with you.

Our time in Singapore with Tom and his beautiful family was some of the happiest of our lives. Hanging out by the pool, singing and dancing in our favorite bar Anywhere, fantastic dinners at Hua Zhu with the Lockett's. Awesome memories of first and only game at Fenway Park with Tom and his amazing gigantic straw hat. His love for Shelby and his wonderful girls shone through everything he did. Tom's passing has left a huge void in this world. Hopefully Shelby, Peyton, Phoebe, and Paige can feel all of the love we have for them.

Tom was a wonderful person. He has gone too soon.

We know Tom since 2000 in Singapore, meeting with him, Shelby, Peyton, Phoebe and Paige during all these years, with fantastic memories of the time spent together.

He was nice and funny, and extremely devoted to his family.

We love him so much.
Tom will stay in our thoughts and our hearts forever.

Tom was a lovely, charismatic man who joined in wholeheartedly with community activities when living in the UK. He welded a mean water gun in our annual street party water fight which he enjoyed as much, if not more, than the children. Friendly, engaging and hospitable, he was the best of neighbours and will be sorely missed. Tom, Shelby and their daughters Peyton, Phoebe and Paige are remembered with tremendous fondness by their friends in Hampstead, England. Our hearts go out to you.

Tom you were one of a kind.
One of life's unforgettable characters.
How well we remember our Singapore days with you, Shelby and the three P's.
Such fun.
Who could ever forget Tom and his dance routine at Anywheres' - hat and all.
Or his air guitar at Debbie and Tim's farewell party.

A devoted Dad and a wonderful husband.
You were just so very special.

Vale Tom.

Tom was a truly good man and a treasured friend. The world is a better place for his too-short presence among us. My heart is heavy for Shelby, their daughters, and everyone who knew Tom.
