PIQUA -- Gary D. Petry, 74 of Piqua, passed away at 11:08 p.m. Saturday June 4, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 13, 1947 in Troy to the late K. Darwin and Dorothy (Bowman) Petry. He married Carol S. (VanGorden) August 8, 1975 in Piqua and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Amy Petry, and Jennifer (Monty) Coppess all of Piqua; four grandchildren, Ashlynn, Julia, Grace, and Trenton; and his brother, Tim (Vicki) Petry of Piqua; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gary was a graduate of Miami East High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a jet engine mechanic, and willingly took two tours in Vietnam during that conflict. Upon returning home, Gary worked as the supervisor at Trimark Company in Piqua. At this time Gary felt called to the ministry, and went through the seminary in Delaware, Ohio to become an ordained minister and served faithfully, most recently at Pasco United Methodist Church. Gary and Carol were members of Grace United Methodist Church. Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed going camping with family and friends, and spending time with his beloved daughters and grandchildren.
A service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 9, 2022 at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Fox and Pastor Bonita Ritchie officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, also at Grace United Methodist Church.
