PIQUA -- Jane Lee (Buirley) Wion, 87, of Piqua, passed away at 2:05 a.m. Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Hospice of Miami County. She was born July 30, 1935 in Troy to the late Marion and Lula Mae (Davis) Buirley. She married Roscoe L. Wion November 24, 1954 in Troy and he preceded her in death September 29, 1986.
Survivors include three children, Rozann Counts, Nick (Lorie) Wion, and Craig (Rebecca) Wion all of Piqua; a brother, Donald (Linda) Buirley of Troy; seven grandchildren, Shellie (Jim) Drake, Jessica (Jeremy) Fisher, Erika (Shane) Abate, Natalie "Nate" Wion, Whitney Biddle, Brogan Wion and Eli Wion; four great grandchildren, Jaxyn Larson, Eleanor Drake, Aubrey Abate and Kylie Abate; also many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Jane was preceded in death by her brother, Harold "Buddy" Buirley; son in-law, Terry Counts, and a great granddaughter, Adelyn Drake.
Mrs. Wion was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1953 where she participated in marching band. She worked as a cook for Piqua Schools (Bennett & Springcreek) for many years. She also worked at Troy Stouder Hospital and KFC. Jane was involved in the international order of the Rainbow for Girls while her mother was the Mother Adviser. Jane was an accomplished piano player and loved music. She would play at the Hayner Center for different events in her younger days; and while in high school she accompanied the high school choirs for rehearsals and performances as well as soloists at contests. As Jane grew older, and her family expanded she enjoyed supporting her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren participating in multiple music programs and sporting events within Piqua and Troy schools. Jane enjoyed traveling and camping with family and her late friend, Marilyn Errett. She was ready to get up and go whenever anyone asked her to tag along. After retirement, Jane enjoyed catching up with former classmates and cooks. Anytime the family got together, Jane enjoyed sitting back and soaking up the smiles and laughter. She loved with her whole heart and was very loved by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
