PIQUA — Jerry Robert Nix, 84, of Piqua, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at 2:50 p.m. in his residence. He was born on Aug. 28, 1930, in Huntsville, Ala., to the late Walter H. and Zeria L. (Castle) Nix. On Aug. 25, 1979 in Piqua, he married Opal J. Beeman. She survives.
Jerry is also survived by three daughters and a son-in-law: Joann and Buddy Miles, Decatur, Ind., Jenell Nix Patton, Decatur, Ind., and Darlene Nix Dankworth, Piqua; three sons and daughters-in-law: Randy and Joann Nicks, Piqua, Ricky and Judy Nix, Troy, and Troy Nix, Huntsville, Ala.; three step-children: Janetta Leonardo, Charleston, Ind., David and Evelyn Shortridge, Piqua, and Duane and Melissa Shortridge, Piqua; one brother: Harm Nix, Piqua; one sister: Francis Thompson, Huntsville, Ala.; 30 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son: Anthony Nix; two daughters: Freda Nix Hopkins and Janice Marie Nix; one brother: Bill Nix; and four sisters: Docia Ward, Clementine Perkins, Trudy Teague and Betty Copeland.
Jerry was a member of First Church of God, 922 Madison Ave., Piqua. He was a Sunday school teacher at the church for five years. Robert loved walking outdoors and fishing. He worked for Copeland Corporation in Sidney for 25 years. Jerry was one of the finest roofers in Miami County and roofed for 67 years. He finally gave up roofing at the age of 81.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Madison Avenue First Church of God, 922 Madison Ave., Piqua, with Pastor Scott Stremell and Pastor James Rose co-officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua.
