He was born on February 28, 1944, in Bad Axe, Michigan, to his parents Roy and Alma (Alton) Perdue and raised on his family's farm in Kinde, MI. He always referred to "up home" as "God's country" and he often reminisced about his parents being "wonderful people that did their best." He left home to be an apprentice carpenter in Detroit.
On June 14th, 1969, Wayne married, Judy Ellen Mitchell of Davison with his brothers as his groomsmen. Judy was his first date, and they were married for 56 great years. Their bond was unwavering, and it was inspiring to watch them care for one another as they aged. It seemed evident to all that Wayne stayed with us as long as he did because Judy was caring for him and by his side until the very end.
Together Wayne and Judy raised three sons, Scott (Roxanne) Perdue, Aaron Perdue and Jason Perdue on 10 acres in Lapeer. They grew up admiring their dad for his tremendous work ethic, generosity with his time and effort, playfulness, kindness, honesty, humor and humility. He worked long hours but made sure to make time for their sports or play catch in the yard. He was a very present dad and taught them to be worthwhile men by his example. He was as proud of them as they were of him.
Wayne had three grandchildren, Ava, Luke, and Beau Perdue, and enjoyed watching them cheer and play hockey. He always asked how they were doing and wanted them to know he loved them and was proud of their accomplishments.
Wayne held his siblings and their children in very high regard. He is survived by Kevin (Maggie) Perdue, Jerry's wife, Rosalee Perdue, Gail (Clarence) Reinke, Phil Perdue, Kathy (Bob) Brunner, and Shelia (Bob) Knoll. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alma (Alton) Perdue; his oldest brother, Jerry Perdue; his sister, Linda Booth; nephew, Michael Booth; and sister-in-law, Angie Perdue.
Wayne greatly enjoyed their cottage on the water in Port Austin. He loved taking car rides to look at "the farms" and his only regret was not buying more. He liked time with family and friends at the "Chicken Coop" and time sitting along the Willow Creek looking for Eagles. His lap dog Millie kept him company day and night.
Wayne will be fondly remembered as a tireless provider for his family as both a carpenter at General Motors in Flint as well as a trim carpenter working for families around the Flint area. He lived a very selfless life desiring those around and after him to be better off than he was. As we say goodbye to a remarkable man of great character, we celebrate the wonderful memories and appreciate the opportunities he created for his family. His life was well lived and his unwavering commitment to family above all else will keep his memory alive forever.
