Joel Lyding Obituary

Lyding, Joel K.
Joel K. Lyding, 62, of Middletown, died Saturday, December 21, 2019. He was born in Morristown, NJ, son of Marion (Dusek) Lyding-DeWeese of Middletown and the late Charles W. Lyding. Joel retired from the Connecticut State Police as Quarter Master serving for 30 years. Joel enjoyed nature and the outdoors. He was a avid trout fisherman and could often be found fishing the Salmon and Coginchaug Rivers. If he was not fishing he would be tending to his plants and gardens or spending time with his two sons or family. He enjoyed photography, hiking, skiing, and camping. He was a person who enjoyed the simple things in life and would always try to fix things before buying something new. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He is survived by his two sons, Ryan and Jared Lyding both of Middletown, wife Deidre, brothers, Rick Lyding and his wife Pamela of Middletown and Keith Lyding and his wife Cheryl of Blairstown, NJ, nieces and nephews, Erica, Amy, Kristy, Meghann, Charles and several grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by his step-father Omer DeWeese and nephew Corey B. Lyding. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday (Jan. 11th) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. Burial will be at the convenience of his family. Joel- Ive known you for at least 30 years, first thru Rick, and then when I worked at Troop E and Fleet- for the CSP- you were always my go to guy for most everything the troops needed. You were one of the most reliable CSP personnel there and I know they missed you when you retired. You were there for all of them and that was a tall order but you filled it every single time. My fondest moments were of you at the yearly golf tournament with Ryan- mostly- along with some trips to VT-

I cant describe how very sad I am for your children and your mom and your brothers, the entire Lyding family has another void- and I feel that void again too- Gone way to young- May you Rest In Peace and watch over your boys! ❤

Joel and Dierdre your kindness to our family when we first moved to Middletown from NJ will always be appreciated. Being the new out of state family moving here was a tough move but was made easier by having your giving heart's to welcome us into your lives. For our sons to share adventures as best friends for their younger years will always hold a special spot for me. Joel and memories of his good and helpful nature will be missed and we are very sad for his loss. Our condolences, love and prayers to your entire family.

Joel was always the best when it came to getting you what you needed. From my first dealings with him at Troop L, through specialized units and finally to the Colonel's Office, Joel was always a helping hand and a friend to clerical personnel and troopers alike. He has been missed at CSP and will be missed by those he leaves behind. Sincere condolences to Joel's family and close friends.

Great memories with Joel. He was my neighbour for many years. Water skiing or fishing is what he loved most besides his one son at the time.

Joel was a central figure in many Troopers careers. I am happy I got to know him in the early 90s and that he was the one I turned my equipment into upon retirement. May he Rest In Peace...

Joel was the first face I would see in the morning on my way up to the traffic office. I enjoyed his stories about life, his family and CSP history. Joel was a kind, generous friend that always went "up and beyond" the call of duty. His mission was to keep his troopers safe by providing them with the best equipment available. This allowed his troopers to return safely home to their families at the end of their watch. My deepest sympathy to the entire Lyding family. Thank you for sharing Joel with us at the CSP. God bless

Joel my friend, you left a legacy of friendship and brotherhood with all of us at the Alumni Association. You single handedly provided many of the items that are on display today, things that many hundreds of people, CSP members, clubs and our Trainee's have looked at in wonder. You never wanted anything from us but instead gave so much to us. Thank You - R.I.P. - You will be sorely missed.
