Maria Assunta Bafumi, 95, wife of the late Salvatore Bafumi, entered the gates of heaven on August 20, 2024. Born on August 14, 1929 to Salvatore and Grace (Ruffino) Morello, she immigrated to Middletown, CT with her young family from Melilli, Sicily, Italy in 1966. She was a resident of Middletown and a member of St. Sebastian Church for almost 60 years.
Maria was employed as a seamstress/sewing machine operator by Lyngrace Manufacturing for many years. But her greatest role was that of a wife, mother, and Nonna. She loved to bake and cook for her family and enjoyed having her family together for special occasions and holidays. She was a nurturing person and cared for her mother for many years. She enjoyed telling stories from Sicily, sitting around her kitchen table with coffee and cookies, and talking or playing card games like Scopa and Briscola.
Maria leaves behind to mourn her four sons and their wives: Peter (Susan), Victor (Linda), Guido (Lauren), and Maurice (Barbara). She also leaves 10 grandchildren: Francesca Duggins, Rachel Bafumi, Christina Bafumi, Katrina O'Brien (Tim), Stephen Bafumi, David Bafumi, Michelle Osborne (Dan), Matthew Bafumi, Erica Avitable (Frank), and Jeffrey Bafumi (Laura), 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her sons, she leaves behind her brothers and their wives: Rosario Morello (Elena), Nicholas (Maureen), and Victor Morello (Janet). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Maria was a kind-hearted soul and will be greatly missed by her loving family. May she rest in peace in heaven, reunited with her husband, the love of her life.
The family will receive guests from 9:00 to 10:30am on Saturday, August 24th, at D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 South Main St., Middletown. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11am at St. Sebastian Church, 155 Washington St., Middletown. Burial will follow at the family plot at the St. Sebastian Cemetery in Middlefield.
