Matthew Rook Obituary
Matthew A. Rook, 56, of Middletown, CT, passed away at Middlesex Hospital, on September 2nd, surrounded by family and his loved ones.
Matthew was born in Hartford, CT in 1967 to Victor B. Rook Sr. and Shirley Jean (Peterson) Rook. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Shirley J. (Peterson) Rook, of Middletown, CT and his oldest brother, Victor B. Rook Jr., of Middletown, CT.
He is survived by his father, Victor B. Rook Sr and his significant other, Patricia Freeland, of Middletown, CT and his siblings: Tyler P. Rook, of Middletown, Sandra A. Bellmore of Killingworth and his twin sister, Kristen M. Sopelak, of Melbourne, FL, and many nieces, nephews and loved ones. He is also survived by the love of his life, Anita Tetrault, of Middletown.
Matt attended Vinal Technical High School and New England Tractor Trailer Training School, where he became a Teamster. He was the owner of A-Marvelous Car Wash, in Middletown, CT, for over 23 years. Matthew was involved in many community projects and supported the Middletown Police Department for many years.
Matthew was a life-long fisherman and boater, who cast his first rod at a young age. Matthew was the happiest when he was spending time fishing with his dad, aboard the Sea-Bird, of Old Saybrook, CT and "Monday Fishing Days" aboard the Yellow-Bird, of Hampton, NH. He was happiest far out to sea surrounded by the ocean that he loved, with his family, friends, and fish.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, September 11th, at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church, Cromwell. Burial will be in the family plot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middletown, followed by a reception and lunch at The Rook Retirement Community Hall, Rook Road, Cromwell, CT. Friends may call at the Lastrina Family Funeral Home, 491 High St., Middletown on Tuesday, September 10th from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Glioblastoma Foundation will be welcome.

Condolences to all who loved Matthew. We never met Matthew but we feel we knew him well. He was a kind, caring loving man. Anita's mother Barbara spoke of him every time we talked on phone and our girls days out. Barbara seemed to have a special bond with Matt presented every time she spoke of him. Her eyes always lit up, her smile was contagious just mentioning Matt. We wanted to meet the man that brought such joy in the life of our friend Barbara. Matt was a true friend of mine for many years. No matter where we'd see each other, he would always ask how I was doing. Going to the car wash was ALWAYS a treat and we would chat it up. Friendly, smart and the hardest worker! A chip off the old block. My sympathies to his family and friends.
