Nancy Henry Obituary

Henry, Nancy
Nancy "Nana" Henry, wife of Luther B. Henry Jr., earned her wings Sunday morning, August 25, 2019, after a struggle with Alzheimer's. Nancy was born April 1, 1942 in Middletown, Connecticut. She was a lifelong resident of Middletown where she raised her family. She worked at JC Penney, and later for 25 years at Middlesex Mutual Assurance from where she retired from in 2004. There, she found many dear and lifelong friends who were instrumental in convincing her to join their softball league. Mom's "first base stretch" was legendary. She played for Whitmore-Behm and later Cypress Grill. Mom later became a dedicated UCONN Women's Basketball fan holding seasons tickets and traveled to several Final Fours with friends. She most enjoyed, however, spending time with her family. She helped out with the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and cheerleading squads. One of her greatest gifts to her children was to instill a passion for reading. She especially enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren Katharine and Emily. Nancy's granddaughters were the light of her life, she taught them how to play softball, basketball and how to sew. She read to them and with them. They all loved each other "to the moon and back". Nana's handmade Halloween costumes were extraordinary. Mom was a 16-year cancer survivor but that was not the only challenge she was handed. She was much stronger than many realized. She was always dedicated to her family and always gave them her all. If ever one was discouraged or ill, she was there. Her encouragement was a perfect balance of her compassion and wicked sense of humor. In addition to her husband of 60 years, she is survived by daughter Eileen Henry of Doylestown, PA, son Jeffrey Henry of Middletown, cherished granddaughters Katharine Plante of Arlington, VA, Emily Plante of Blacksburg, VA, and sister Helen Fitts of Stonington, CT, and several nieces and nephews. Whatever realm she reappears in, we are all confident she will be welcomed by Seamus, her beloved German Shorthair Pointer and Guardian Angel. The Henry family would like to thank all those who have taken care of Mom and Dad, especially Matilda, Jennifer and Jane, medical professionals Cindy Wirth, Joann Foss and staff at Aging Care, and the staff at Water's Edge in Middletown. Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 29th from 5 to 7 pm at Biega funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown, Connecticut. Vigil prayers will be held at 7 p.m. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family. I'm so sorry to hear of Nancy's passing. I worked with Nancy for a brief period of time while in Customer Service at MiddleOak, and she was always so kind and had a great sense of humor. We kept in touch occasionally for a few years after her retirement with our mutual friends from CS, but then we eventually lost touch. I will miss her greatly, and always remember her smile.

You were more than a neighbor and friend, you were like a sister to me, always there when I needed you or just to talk and laugh on one of our walks. Walk peacefully in the meadows of flowers my friend, I will miss you more than you will ever know
