John Risinger Obituary

John A. Risinger, 67, of Fort Madison, passed away at 4 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1958 in Fort Madison to George and Edith Freiburg Risinger. John was a graduate of Aquinas High School and Iowa State University. He worked as a mail carrier for the Fort Madison Post Office and retired in January of 2022.

John loved sports, especially baseball and golf. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and renovating his home. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was fondly known as "Unc" and cherished his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Survivors include one brother, George (Marlene) Risinger of Waukee; three sisters, Mary Ann (Michael Ottlinger) Risinger of Cincinnati, Ohio, Julie Risinger of Iowa City, and Pat (Jack) Krapfl of Guttenberg; nieces; nephews; three great-nephews and three great-nieces. John was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will meet with friends on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.
