Virginia Noon Obituary

Virginia Mary (Jiles) Noon passed away on Feb. 16, 2021, at her current home in Wichita, Kan. She was 96 years old.

Virginia had formerly lived for many years in Fort Madison. She and her husband Tom had owned and operated the Midwest Child Care Center in Fort Madison for many years which had at one time employed 23 care providers and a cook, and had an enrollment of 142 preschool children. Virginia and Tom made many friends in Fort Madison.

Virginia was preceded in death in 1998 by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Ray Noon.

She is survived by their four sons Thomas/Laura, Randall/Leslie, Patrick and James/Victoria; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Virginia is also survived by a sister, Marcia (Jiles) Lieurance Wilson in Springhill, Tenn.

Virginia was the daughter of Marcus Edward Jiles and Ethyl Vera Jiles of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and was the fourth of eight children.

Virginia had many hobbies, one of which included ham radio. At the age of 72 she studied and obtained in succession novice, technician, technician-plus, and general class radio operator licenses. Her call sign was KC0CIO. Virginia also collected dolls, ceramic figurines and loved to look for antiques.

During her life, Virginia and Tom had owned and operated several businesses including a Gulf Oil Service Station, a neighborhood grocery store, and a previous child care facility in suburban St. Louis. Virginia had also worked variously as a sportswear clothes buyer for J.C. Penny's, a cosmetics salesperson for Katz Drug Stores, and Avon Lady, a sales clerk at a bakery, and a grocery store chain cashier. While in high school, she worked as a clerk in a dime store and was given the nick name Slap Happy.

Virginia will be interred next to her husband in Clinton, Iowa. Other arrangements are currently pending.

Instead of flowers, Virginia would appreciate it if you donated to the Brown County Humane Society, 2393 Mallard Road, Hiawatha, Kan., 66434 (tel: 785-742-1976).
