Bryan McClain Obituary

Bryan David Peter McClain

Philosopher, avid reader, violin player, lover of his friends and family, Bryan David Peter McClain, 43, passed away in his sleep due to complications from post traumatic epilepsy on September 23rd, 2023 in Portland, Oregon.

Bryan was born in Bloomington, Indiana on December 31st, 1979 and moved to Missoula when he was 6 months old. He spent the majority of his life in Missoula, with the final 8 years spent in his beloved St. John's neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, where he worked in the events industry until complications arose from a tragic head injury 6 years ago. Lately, he worked as a manager at a New Seasons Market in St. John's, where he was proud of his participation in the recent successful unionization of the store. Bryan was ever the fighter and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who loved him.

Bryan leaves his mother Sarah McClain, his father Joe Ross (Jean), his sister Fianna McClain, and his uncle Andrew McClain.

Sometimes I feel that life is passing me by, not slowly either, but with ropes of steam and spark-spattered wheels and a hoarse roar of power or terror. It's passing but I'm the one who's doing all the moving. I'm not a passenger, nor am I the station or the stop: I am the train." - Bryan McClain

A celebration of life will be held at Suite Two, 1001 S. 4th St. W., Missoula, on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 PM. There is no set agenda; feel free to flow in and out and pay your respects.

The loss of Bryan is more than devastating. I wish I had got to know him in person. We did interact through messaging and I felt he was someone I would have really liked. He recommended a book to read. That is the book that I was reading when I heard the tragic news. My heartfelt condolences to all those close to him. He will really leave a void. Sending much love. Our family treasures our memories of time spent with Bryan when he was young exploring Woodstock, NY camping in Pentwater, Michigan and hanging out together at home. We remember his patience and kindness to his younger cousins.
Sarah and Fiana, our hearts are with you.

I am so very sad to see this. Bryan took violin lessons with me for many many years. He was a wonderful musician, stand up comedian (!), very generously handed down his play mobile sets to my now 34 year old son Campbell. After he graduated I so enjoyed visiting with him on trips to the Good Food Store. Always so kind and caring. Much and love and many many condolences to you Sarah and Bryan's father Joe and sister Fianna.

I didn't know Bryan, but I love his quote. I think he was likely a gentle soul. Blessings to his family.
