James Edward Ahlin

August 14, 1945 - July 12, 2025

James Ahlin, 79, passed away at home surrounded by family on July 12, 2025. James was born in Missoula, Mont. to James W. Ahlin and Winifred Wells Ahlin on August 14, 1945. He grew up in Drummond, Mont. surrounded by a large extended family and friends. James worked as a third generation railroader. He started work in 1967 for Northern Pacific, then Burlington Northern and retiring in 2005 with Burlington Northern Santa Fe. James was a 54 year member of Masons. He is Past Master of Ruby Lodge #36 of Drummond and Meridian Lodge #105 of Cascade, Mont. He was also a member of W.H. Upton Lodge in Bremerton, Wash. He was a 54 year member of the Order of Eastern Star serving as Associate Patron in Drummond. He is Past Associate Grand Guardian of Jobs Daughters in Montana. James loved all the Masonic bodies. He was especially proud to serve as Associate Guardian when his own daughters joined Jobs Daughters. James was very involved with Boy Scouts serving as leader and on the council. He attended camp with his son many times. He was involved with Special Olympics taking his daughter to many activities. He was a volunteer firefighter for many, many years in Drummond and Cascade, Mont.

James was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Kathryn Allum Ahlin, his children Sarah, John, Myanna and Holly Ahlin. Special family friends Aaron and Breanna Goulden, grandchildren Bentley and Hudson Fox, Noah and Merida Goulden all of Bremerton, WA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
