Allison Tipton

1940 - 2023

Allison "Big Al" Tipton, age 82, of the Bald Creek community passed away on Friday, January 20th, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. A native of Yancey County, he was a son to the late Thomas and Martha Fender Tipton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers: Richard and Larry Tipton and sister, Evelyn Conrad.

Allison "Big Al" was owner and operator of Superior Drywall for many years and loved horseracing and attending horse racing events.

He was a wonderful family man who loved his Lord and Savior, and adored his children, grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren.

He also adored his special dog friend, Murphy. He enjoyed going to visit McDonalds and Summit to hang out with his buddies.

He also loved watching cardinals out of his kitchen window.

Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years, Danah Burton Tipton of the home; daughters: Allison Metts (Robert K.) of Leicester, Wendy Stevenson (Les) of Weaverville, and Susie Tipton of Burnsville; brother, Rev. Chris Tipton (Telena) of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren: Mandy Rumfelt (Wayne), Joe Metts (Sara) of Chicago, IL, Colby Harris (Brittany) of Burnsville, Shea Fisher (Jarod) of Jonesborough, TN, and Jessie Cantrell (Cody) of Burnsville; and great-grandchildren: Gabe, Hannah Beth, Sunnie, and Sadie.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 26th at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Chris Tipton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
