Dwight Thomas

BAKERSVILLE – Dwight Thomas, 79, of Green Creek Road, Bakersville, passed away Nov. 22, 2023. He was a native of Mitchell County. He was the son of the late Floyd and Hattie Greene Thomas. Dwight attended Little Rock Creek Baptist Church.
Dwight was self employed and owned and operated Thomas Produce, Thomas Farming, and Thomas Grocery.
Dwight was well known in the community where he and his family operated Thomas Grocery, an old-time country store in the Glen Ayre community that opened in 1930. Dwight enjoyed working, meeting people, and visiting with them at the store.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine 'Kitty" Thomas of the home, three sons: Joe Thomas (Anne), of Spruce Pine, Greg Thomas, of Bakersville, and Gerald Thomas (Carrie), of Cleveland, Virginia; three grandchildren: Chloe, Shelby, and Danny Thomas, sister-in-law Jean Wilson, of Mountain City, TN; several nieces and nephews, and many friends in the community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half sister Charlene Sparks.
A graveside service was held Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, at Major Cemetery, Green Creek Road, with Reverend Keith Beck officiating. A meal to celebrate Dwight's life was held following the graveside service at Little Rock Creek Baptist Church.
