Glen LeRoy Richeson

February 1, 1937 ~

June 19, 2025

Glen LeRoy Richeson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, and community leader, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, in Moab, Utah, at the age of 88.

Glen was born on February 1, 1937, in Trinidad, Colorado, to LeRoy Richeson and Mary Etta Abbott. He pursued his education at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, earning a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a teaching certificate-an early step in what would become a life devoted to youth, sports, and service.

In 1959, Glen and his wife, Patricia, made their home in Moab, Utah, where they spent 65 wonderful years together. He was a proud father of five children: Rob Richeson, Brent Richeson (Tammie), Mike Richeson (Brenda), Shauna Richeson Hopper (Obby), and Mark Richeson (Lisa). Their family grew to include ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Glen dedicated much of his life to Grand County High School, where he taught and coached multiple sports, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and athletes. Beyond the classroom and the field, he served as an EMT and volunteered countless hours on the local ambulance service. He was also active member of the Shriners, Elks Club and Rotary Club.

A true community builder, Glen was instrumental in the construction and management of the local ballpark, nurturing a thriving sports culture in Moab. His passion for golf led him to become the local golf pro, where he played a key role in transforming the town's original 9-hole course into a beautifully redesigned 18-hole facility. His vision and leadership helped establish the golf course's outstanding reputation, one that continues to this day.

Glen will be remembered for his dedication, generosity, sense of humor, a great laugh and deep love for his family and community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the places he helped shape.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on August 9th at 3:00 PM at the Moab Valley Inn.

Coach was tough but fair. I will always remember that look when he wasn't pleased with the job you were supposed to do. May you rest in peace Coach...you will not be forgotten.

What an impact Coach had on so many of us who walked the Halls of GCHS ... he was larger than life and we will never forget his great laugh. I hope his family is comforted to know he will always be fondly remembered as 'Coach Richeson'. The years have to erased the part he played in our lives. Karen Sue McGowan Nellis class of 1962.

Couch. I was saddened to hear about your passing. I was unable to mention your passing to anyone without crying. You are a such a legend and an amazing example for nearly every kid growing up around the ages of my brothers. You brought so many wonderful things to Moab for the kids to do from Football to baseball, softball, and skiing. I hate to imagine what Moab would have been without your guidance in so many way. You will be miss. Your a true leader and legend. Thank you for being a second dad for all Mark, Mike and Ernie. You were a true inspiration for them. RIP my friend. Love Tamie
