Alice Visser Obituary

Alice Jolliff Visser
January 5, 1930 - July 4, 2017
Alice was born on January 5, 1930 in Modesto, CA to Inez and R.W. Jolliff. She passed away in Modesto, CA on July 4, 2017.
After a courtship, Emmett Visser and Alice married and welcomed two children.
They started their farming career with dairy and later moved on to peaches and almonds at their ranch in Ceres. When not farming, they enjoyed traveling. Emmett and Alice were members of the Alpenlite Travel Club and also toured the world learning new cultures.
Alice had a passion for the arts. She ran a successful flower and crafts business, Alice in Blunderland, and served as District President of the Junior Women's Club of California. She sang for many years in the First Baptist Church of Modesto choir before later worshipping at Harvest Presbyterian Church of Ceres and was also member of the Soroptimist International of Ceres.
Her joy of knitting was met by her philanthropic nature as she began knitting hats for the Modesto Gospel Mission and Samaritan Purse. She later created her own mission endeavor by delivering her hats to schools in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.
In her later years, Alice especially enjoyed special gatherings with her Red Hat Society group, "Red Hatters".
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Emmett; and four siblings, Everett Jolliff, Harold Jolliff, Jane Adams and Walter Jolliff.
Alice will be deeply missed by her son, Chris Visser and wife Susan; and daughter Carrie Lane. She also leaves behind two grandchildren whom she adored; Nicholas Lane and Juliet Lane.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00 am at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home at 1050 McHenry Avenue, Modesto, CA 95350. A reception will follow.
The family requests that remembrances kindly be made to Modesto Gospel Mission.

Dear Chris and Susan, Carrie, Nicholas and Juliet I remember your mother always had a smiling face. She was so kind and always interested in others. Thank you for caring so well for your mother. She carried out her work for the LORD by caring for others with her own hands she knitted hats!! How beautifully her God given gift was used here on earth. Wow and to think she is now on eternity's shore in Glory with Jesus. May He our LORD lift you up and fill the void with His love. Praying for you..Shirley and Henry De Witt

To Carrie and Chris, I am so sorry for you loss. In years past she was part of the family for those of us in Ceres, and at Harvest. I know our parents were good friends. I'll never forget the wonderful flower arranging and creating Alice did for my wedding. Beautiful. The world will miss such a beautiful spirit. Condolences

I am a classmate and attended all the reunions she had. So sorry for your loss. I saw her about 2 months ago. Unable to attend the service. I live in Newcastle and due to the heat cannot travel. JoAnn Waldon Lewis.
