Barbara Barnewolt Obituary

Barbara Barnewolt
November 3, 1924 - April 9, 2021
Modesto, California - Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, Barbara and her husband Barney (deceased) moved to Modesto in 1954 with their 3 children, Lynn (Darpinian), Kirk and Keith (both deceased). She left 5 grandchildren (Shane, Rebecca, Dustin, Signe and Aaron) and 7 great grandchildren. One of her favorite occasions was when family got together with "the little ones buzzing around". They lived a year in Europe, and after Barney's retirement lived several years in Carmel Valley and Grass Valley area before coming back to Modesto when Barney's health was challenged.
Barbara was a beautiful, strong, reserved woman (raised by an Irish mother and an English father), who had a touch of elegance and loved interior design and remodeling houses for resell. She was always very health conscious, was an avid snow-skier, and enjoyed the competition of tennis, golf, and bridge. She was an active participant at Jan's Bridge Center the last 10 years of her life, which offered her some great social and mental stimulation. She drove up until last December, keep her body active, and traditionally had a Scotch on the rocks every evening at 5 (something that charmed her grandchildren), up until she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure 2 weeks before she passed. Mom lived a good, full life, and will be a "tough act to follow".
Barbara insisted on not having any service because she felt she had outlived most of her friends, but for those of you who would like to offer a remembrance, perhaps a donation to Community Hospice (thank you for your help) or the American Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice.
