Charlotte Burtis Obituary

Charlotte Ann Burtis

April 7, 1933 - January 18, 2025

Modesto, California - Charlotte Burtis was born in Olustee, Oklahoma on April 7, 1933, and she went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2025. Charlotte was proceeded in death by her husband of 70 years, Al.

Al and Charlotte traveled to all 50 states in a motorhome or flying to Hawaii and cruising to Alaska with their best friends Bill and Veda McCay. Charlotte enjoyed playing in multiple bridge clubs and participated in countless charity events with her sorority sisters of Beta Sigma Phi.

Being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother brought her the most pleasure and pride. She supported her kids in all their activities when they were growing up. She was a leader in PTA, Girl Scouts, 4-H and FFA. Friday nights she went to high school football games to watch granddaughters cheer and sat through many dance recitals. She traveled to watch her grandsons play football and baseball. Great-grandchildren played soccer, basketball, baseball and softball, so she was often on the sidelines of those games too.

Charlotte is survived by her children Kay McCay (Michael), Connie Williams (Ken) and Randy Burtis. Grandchildren Ryan Bentz (Emily) and Mark Bentz and their father Dennis Bentz; Melissa Williams and Jessica Nicolodi (Dereck); Nicole Martin (Ryan), Shawnda Edwards (Chase) and Jacob Burtis (Carolyn) and their mother Ronda Burtis. Bonus grandchildren Kimberly Wintersteller (Jason) and Mike McCay (Jessica). Great-grandchildren Cole and Cali Nicolodi, Mallory and Mitchell Martin, Tate and Tucker Edwards, Rory and Ynez Bentz and Sadie and Bo Burtis. Bonus great-grandchildren Emma and Drew Wintersteller, Emilee, Hayden, Alyssa, Callie and Paisley McCay. Charlotte also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, many lifelong church friends, bridge partners and friends and staff at Bethel Retirement Community.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 2 p.m. at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, 419 Scenic Drive, Modesto, CA with a reception following at Papapolloni Bistro, 2501 McHenry Avenue. Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice & Health Services.

Sending my condolences and prayers to the family. Although we haven´t seen each other in many years my heart is hurting. Cousin charlotte was an amazing lady and my father Jerry Meadows always had nice things to say about Charlotte when we´d talk about their younger years. Rest in Peace.

The Gordo Family

May God bless Cousin Charlotte,

We are grateful for the many times Charlotte was a comfort for our mother, Shirley Brandon Gordo. Our frequency of gatherings stretched farther and farther apart, but never the bond and love. May God bless both Charlotte and our whole Atchley-Jernigan family.

Love,

The Gordo Family

We spent over 20 years enjoying Monday (sometimes Sunday) Night Football with Charlotte and Al. While Al enjoyed the game I talked with Charlotte about anything and everything She was a great conversationalist and had such a wonderful sense of humor! Her favorite topic was their grandkids and later great grandkids. We also visited their house every Halloween where she always had little goody bags made up for my kids. She was a special woman and will be missed by many.
