Conrad Lang Obituary

CONRAD (BUD) LANG MAY 22, 1927 - MAY 30, 2010 Conrad Lang, born in Duluth, Minnesota, passed away at the age of 83. At 17 he joined the navy during World War II where he served in the Asiatic Pacific. Taking advantage of the G.I. Bill, he became a teacher and administrator. He was always grateful for a long and healthy life, filled with travel, and shared with the love of his life, Georgene, surrounded by a loving family. He said that as a youngster from a struggling family during the Great Depression, he didn't dare dream of the wonderful life he has known. He is survived by his wife, Georgene Lang, son, Michael Lang (Debbie) of New York state and daughter, Laurie James (Jack) of Modesto, 5 grandchildren: Katie James, Garrett James, Sahar Jafari, Patti Clark, Carrie Lehto and 2 great-grandchildren, John Lehto and Nicholas Lehto. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial donation to: Community Hospice Foundation, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto Ca., 95356 www.modbee.com/obituaries

As a close childhood friend of Mr. Lang's daughter Laurie, I was able to know Mr. Lang in a different light from his students. He had the most wonderful and clever sense of humor -- always with a twinkle in his eye and an all-knowing grin. He was a good and principled person and a pleasure to have known.

I had the privilege of being in Mr. Lang's class in the early 60's at Modesto High. A favorite memory is him being late for class, something he never was, and came in looking like he was battling the system very hard that day. As he sternly walked to the front of the class, we all burst into a song from the movie "Bye Bye Birdie" - "We love you Conrad, oh yes we do. We love you Conrad and we'll be true. When you're not with us, we're blue. Oh Conrad we love you!" He started to smile and then had a good old fashioned belly laugh. Thanks Mr. Lang. I don't remember what the class was but I remember that day every time I hear the name Conrad or Lang. With fondness, Sandy Serna, Class of '66
