DAVID HUNTER ESTY, SR. AUG. 20, 1932 - FEB. 17, 2007 David Esty Sr., age 74, adored husband, father, brother, grand- father, and great-grandfather, died February 17, 2007, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 20, 1932, in Santa Cruz, California to Harold and Ruth Esty. He served as Lieutenant in the Capitola Police Department in California for 22 years. In 1974, he moved to the San Joaquin Valley in California where he owned and operated the Saint George Hotel, Bar & Restaurant in Newman. In the 80's he successfully managed Foster Farms for several years. A savvy businessman and entrepreneur, David invested in real estate for over 35 years and retired to North Bend, Oregon in 1989. David -had a gift for bringing out the best in those around him. He is remembered by those who loved him as a gracious, kind and considerate man who always put others before himself. He selflessly reached out to encourage, motivate and inspire others to grow and be self-reliant. David had a great sense of humor and though peculiar at times, his witty jokes kept his family and friends continually laughing. David maintained a life long passion far photography which is clearly illustrated in his many candid photos and his extensive camera collection. His family will remember him most fondly behind the lens of a camera snapping a multitude of photos at family gatherings. David is survived by his adoring and devoted wife, Birdie, with whom he enjoyed 31 loving years of marriage and adventures. He is survived by his 5 children: Sandy and Mitchell Brandman of New York, his daughter, Cynthia Esty, David H. Esty Jr. and Susan, Christie and Dennis Gomes of Oregon, Crystal and Mark Souza of California. His brothers, Hal and Eve Esty of Nevada and Bernie Esty of California. Patricia English of Coos Bay. Fourteen grandchildren, Naomi, Hilary, David III, Zachary, Matthew, Corey, Aubrey, Jeremy, Justin, Kylie, Brent, Austin, Brandon, and Christian; his great grandson, Kaiden; his mother-in-law, Meme Vamell; sisters-inlaw, Raedean and Kenny Castro, and Jerry and Royal Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherri. The family suggests memorial donations by made to; South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, OR 97420, 541-269-2986, or Caregiver Respite Program, 93783 Newport Lane, Coos Bay, OR 97420, 800-8585777 or the Alzheimer's Association. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at the North Bend Chapel, 2014 McPherson, North Bend, OR 541-756-0440.
