David Miller Obituary

David Burl Miller

March 12, 1948 - September 29, 2023

Turlock, California -

David B. Miller, 75 of Turlock, CA, passed away peacefully from pancreatic cancer on Sept. 29, 2023.

Dave was born on March 12, 1948, in Salinas, CA, to Burl and Helen Miller. Burl died when Dave was 3 years old, and later, Helen married Al Broderick. The family moved to San Luis Obispo when Dave was 11 years old. He played baseball in high school and graduated from San Luis High in 1966. He continued his education at Fresno State and played semi-pro baseball during the summers. He graduated in 1971.

Dave met his wife, Patricia, at Fresno State. They married in 1971 and had two sons, Jeff and Matt. Dave and Patricia recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Dave was a certified scuba diver and diving instructor for several years. In 1975, he began his career as an insurance agent. He enjoyed being a salesman and meeting people. He worked for American Hardware Mutual for 35 years, retiring in 2010.

Dave loved his family and was a wonderful, devoted husband and father. He was passionate about baseball and passed that on to his sons. He was an avid S.F. Giants fan and loved the 49ers. Dave coached his sons in C.Y.O. basketball and helped coach them in baseball. He loved golfing with his golf buddies and enjoyed reading as well.

He was a member of the Kiwanis of Greater Turlock for 38 years and served as president in 1987. He loved Kiwanis and the many great friends he made in the club. Whether Dave was at a Kiwanis meeting or elsewhere, he always had a good joke to tell.

Dave is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Jeff and daughter-in-law, Kelly; and grandchildren, Miles and Georgia.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather; and his beloved son, Matt.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 6th, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock, followed by an interment at Turlock Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Matthew Miller Memorial Scholarship at Turlock High School, 1600 E. Canal Drive, Turlock, CA 95380 or to Sacred Heart School, 1225 Cooper Ave., Turlock, CA 95380.

I had te honor of knowing David in high school in San Luis Obispo. We played baseball together. While attending Fresno State I ran into him. We got together every once in awhile. I well remember him coming over to my apartment where we pounded and ate abalone that he dove for. He was a great friend. Rest in Peace.
