Douglas Hake Obituary

Douglas Ross Hake
Jan. 25, 1942 - Jan. 25, 2015
Doug was born and raised in Stanislaus County. He was raised on the family farm north of Denair and attended schools there, graduating from high school with the Class of 1960. He then attended Modesto Junior College with an emphasis in Ag. While attending MJC and working on the family farm he also worked part-time for Joe Lema. Joe's business was picking up cans of fresh milk and delivering them to Hughson and Newman. While working for Joe, he met the future love of his life, Joe's daughter Josephine. They were marred in November of 1966. During this time Doug joined the Army National Guard in 1963, serving a 6-year commitment.
Doug continued working on the family farm and started his own custom farming, harvesting and trucking business.  His hobbies included building and driving buggies and running them at the dunes and mountains. Another favorite past-time was long drives in the country. He was a member of the Denair Friends Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by his son Benjamin Hake of Denair; siblings Robert (Vicky) Hake of Denair, Linda (Ted) Pinson of Ohio, Sandra (Allen) Niles of Wyoming; and two grandchildren Marcus and Nicolas Hake of Denair. Doug was preceded in death by his wife Josephine in 2004, his parents Leland and Margaret Hake, and sister Carol Alford.
Viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015 from 4 - 7 pm.
Funeral will also be held at Allen Mortuary on Friday, Jan. 30,2015 at 10 am with burial to follow at Denair Cemetery.

I was saddened to hear of Doug's passing. I too have many fond memories of Doug at family gatherings. Also remember a number of trips to Orange Julius when it first opened in Modesto. On more than one occasion we easily had many more people in the car than we should have. I also remember a number of snipe hunts. Distance keeps me away from the service as it did when Josephine died. Josephine and I did a lot together in 4-H, including a joint demonstration. Prayer are with all of you at this time.

We look forward to a heavenly reunion with Uncle Doug! So glad to hear from Ben of the re-commitment to God and recognition of the Lord Jesus Christ's saving sacrifice for our sins. We hope God makes a point of keeping Doug's infectious, booming laugh intact! Much love to all family. We will continue to pray for you during this difficult time!

In November I sat with Doug in the old Frosty in Denair while I waited for my order to be readied. He told some good stories with memories of his childhood that were fun for me to hear and brought back memories of my own. He was full of stories that would have been fun to see in writing.
Roger and I want Doug's family to know we truly are sorry that you will be without this loving man in your lives. May you feel God beside you as you grieve.

Hake Family,
Doug was a wonderful man. Joel & I used to love to listen to his stories while the kids were working with the pigs. He had a wonderful laugh, & loved talking about his grandsons. He will be greatly missed by everyone in the Denair community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this diffcult time.

I have many happy memories of cousin Doug and all the family gatherings at Leland and Margaret's house. Doug had a tremendous and powerful, resonant voice. I loved to hear him talk and laugh. He will be missed by family and friends.
