Edward Ferro Obituary

Edward Lee Ferro
April 23, 1947- March 19, 2018
Edward L Ferro, age 70, passed away on March 19, 2018. Ed was born on April 23, 1947 in Modesto, California to Edward Frank Ferro and Jane Marie Mahaffey Ferro. He is survived by his daughter Danielle Mendenhall (Kevin), three grandchildren (Addison, Connor, and Isabella Mendenhall), sister Judith Taylor (Vernon), niece Celeste M. Monaco, nephews James and Dominic Monaco, and half-sister Sarah Fitzgerald.
Ed lived his entire life in Modesto. He went to St. Stanislaus Catholic grammar school and graduated from Davis High School, where his love for baseball got its start. After high school Ed worked with his mother Jane at Bradbury's cleaners as a delivery boy. Ed started his lifelong career with the Modesto Police Department in 1970 and was proud to serve as an officer for 29 years until his retirement in 1999. Ed also taught at the Police Academy, was a resource officer at Johansen High School, and a neighborhood youth adviser at Mark Twain Junior High School. Ed was passionate about his job and was known for his lively stories as a police officer. Our family with continue to retell those stories for years to come. Ed was also involved with the Modesto Jaycees and played on their baseball team -- one of his favorite pastimes.
Ed was an avid sports enthusiast and was particularly devoted to the LA Rams and the New York Yankees. He loved to talk to everyone about his "teams." Ed cherished his trips to the coast with family, and everyone can attest to Ed's love for music. Our family fondly remembers him singing his heart out while cooking, driving, or entertaining. He was an amazing cook and was happiest in the kitchen surrounded by family. Ed loved animals and was a bleeding heart for any of them in need. They quickly became his family. Ed will be dearly missed, but forever in our hearts and memories.
A memorial service will be held on April 27, 2018, at 3:00 pm, at Salas Brothers, 419 Scenic Dr., Modesto CA. A reception will follow at the Fruit Yard, 7948 Yosemite Blvd, Modesto CA.

Running into Eddie Ferro at Raleys produce department would often end up in a recipe exchange. Though I went to school with Eddie, where we never spoke to each other, and worked with his sister Judy, where we rarely spoke, it was at the produce department where Eddie came alive. As a bigger than life person, he will leave a void in the hearts of those who knew him best. Condolences to Judy, Celeste and families...

My condolences to all of Ed's family. I am sure he will be missed. I started in the DA's Office shortly after he got into Law Enforcement. Our paths crossed many times with a lot of them as a witness of mine while a Prosecutor or later in a trial in my Court. He was always very professional and well prepared. He was a great representative of the Modesto Police Department.

I am so very sorry for the huge loss I know you are all feeling. I spent enough holidays with you all that Eddie felt like family to me just as you do Judy and Celeste. He was quite the joker. Always so much fun. My heart is with you all.
I hope the memories of those precious times gives you some strength to cope with this loss.
With so much love

Hi Uncle Eddie, IM REPORTING IN.....( an inside family joke) I've often been told of how you saved my life. When i was a baby i stroller-ed myself into the deep end of a swimming pool you came to my rescue. As a young girl i remember you driving around in that gold Porsche and you dogies were with you. That car and the dogs always smelled like you. My girlfriends always thought it was so cool to have an uncle as a policeman. You always loved the girls LOL . We had the best of times at our family shenanigans, everything had to be top notch with you. Anyone that know you knows you had great taste in all you did. Still in disbelief there will be mo more silly calls or jokes over the phone that happened numerous times in one day. I fed you lunch the day you left us and i would have never imagined getting that call that evening. Etched in my mind a memory no one wishes for. But there has not been one day that i haven't heard a song that reminds me of you or seeing you singing it out. you deserve to be at peace now in your mind and im sure you and my dad are catching up for lost time. Tell him i love him and share with him the twist in life i am going through. I will forever miss you, love you! your niece Celeste Vieira Monaco

There are no words to express the hole left in my heart the day that you left us. I will hold the last few months we had to together close to my heart until my last breath. I will keep your spirt alive by always telling your stories. I will miss your calls and your voicemails. Fly high with the angels, Dad. I hope your are singing your heart out. Until we meet again, I love you. Your one and only.
